How fake can a cable really be?

Shirley, you can't be serious??  :o

If a cable marketed as, say, "Audioquest", is made/marketed by Audioquest and its agents ... it's genuine.

If someone sells an Audioquest cable which is not made/marketed by Audioquest ... then it's fake.

(Note: I use the term "made/marketed" - rather than just "made" as some mfrs market products which they don't actually manufacture.  For instance ... I believe "Linn" cartridges are actually made by a Japanese cartridge mfrer.)

I believe his comment was sarcasm along the lines of "all cables sound the same anyway."

Aah, OK.  (As Pim seems to be from NSW ... I assumed he was genuine.  :classic_tongue: )

Last year I bought some connectors from www.audiophile-store.com.au.  It was a very small order, however, Aaron was very helpful with my queries and I felt I received excellent customer service.

How does one "tune" a Mogami/Neutrik cable exactly?

I suspect it isn't a thing. Happy to be enlightened though. How can you alter the sound of pre-made cable and connectors? I've made hundreds of the same ones, same connectors, maybe I missed the little tuning screw. Tighten for more treble, loosen for bass :P

Hi,

Australian member here. Looking to buy some new gear.

I came across https://www.audiophile-store.com.au/ while searching for a SMSL DAC.

I couldn't find anything about them online so I ask you fellow stereonet members if you have dealt with them and if they are trustworthy and legit?

Thanks.

I feel like the responses indicate the store is legitimate and I worry that the original title of this thread seems to suggest it isnt.

While hopefully your original question has now been answered,  your thread title will pop up in search results forever. It would seem fairer to the vendor to remove the ALL CAPS "LEGIT?" from the title?

Definitely agree.

I really dislike the use of caps and multiple question marks anywhere, but particularly in thread titles and now that the business owner has responded and clarified all questions it is unfair to leave the thread title as it stands.

Wouldn't deal with this seller again.  bought twice and both occasions had to result to Paypal dispute.  No communication from seller when you send multiple emails, only time you will get reply is before you actually paid for the item.

Unless you are patient, not like myself, wouldn't buy from this store again.

On November 4 I ordered a Furutech headphone adaptor and paid for Express Postage. By November 18 no sign of the item and despite repeated emails no response at all. I have requested a full refund but again no response. Auspost tracking indicates that the item has not been lodged so there is no tracking available. Not sure whats going on but its an aweful way to conduct your business. Being put in a "black hole" is not good for  your morale.

There are other threads here with similar experiences.

I recall I once ordered a DAP Leather Case, which was required for upcoming travel (before COVID!) and allowed plenty of time.

After hearing nothing, I had to contact them - and eventually got a response that they didn't have one and it would be some time before I could get it.

I wasn't impressed with the service at all (and requested a refund which I received).

There is a note on their webiste "Closing 22nd Nov until Dec 10th, orders made during this period will be dispatched as a priority upon return, thankyou !" so you might have to wait a few weeks for this to be resolved - I would hope you have your problem sorted before then though.

I bought a small item from them abut a year ago and felt I got good service.

I have opened a case with Paypal but have to wait until Dec 6 to start the refund process. Not happy Jan!

Rather crap service especially seeing as you paid for express post - gave you tried ringing them?

Posted

Yes tried ringing during business hours but goes to message bank every time. Then I get an email asking whats my order number. You have to wonder!

Seems like false advertising on their website:

"100% Australian Owned and Operated! All items are located and shipped directly from our Melbourne warehouse. This means that there are no long waiting periods and all orders arrive quickly to your door."

Good luck getting your product or a refund.

Just put "Audiophile Shop and Hallam " into a google search. Amongst the results is this set of conversations on Stereonet. Business 101 goes on about effective communication and protecting your brand........lots of other rules too!
