Addicted to music Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 @brenden Thanks for sharing, very rare to see circuit diagrams for Stax components, they keep it to there chest! Love how they also provided a logic diagram, it’s been a while since I’ve seen AND or OR and inverted AND and OR gates in diagrams, certainly bring back memories on Boolean Algebra.
brenden Posted October 23, 2022 Author Posted October 23, 2022 These are rare . I think its important to preserve this history and for those that are lucky enough to own one to keep them working . Words seem inadequate to describe the sound of this . Maybe god like . I have to compare with some top line offerings but this audiophile got a shock once the music started to play . 2
Plasmod3 Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Man I have been keeping an eye out ut looking to, buy one for the last 2 yrs. No luck so far haha. The stax is phenomenal!! Thanks for sharing:)
brenden Posted October 25, 2022 Author Posted October 25, 2022 (edited) Just to add some comments on this photo. I havent seen this section of the Stax dac x1t on the net before . Looking from the top its clear that the Stax is full of circuitry . Its easy to miss the circuitry on both sides . These boards contain the complex regulated power supplies 290v for the tube and + and - 12 v and +and - 15v . This is for one channel. Stax is famous for its Super Shunt regulated power supplies and is where much of the magic is created . As you can see this was hideously expensive to manufacture . Even if you think dac chips have progressed this machine is still state of the art in power supplies in my opinion . Even the massive transformers were wired with pcocc copper !! brenden Posted October 25, 2022 Author Posted October 25, 2022 Also interesting is their use of those small black tantalum capacitors and leadless resistors back then . 1
brenden Posted October 26, 2022 Author Posted October 26, 2022 Ultra analog D20400 These cost many times the price of any dac chip at the time so consequently only used in very few high end dacs . 1
Plasmod3 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 the stax is one amazing dac...i want one!:-)
