Braddles 63
So in my HT and 2 Chanel rooms I simply run Tidal through my Smart 4K tvs (Samsung & Sony) into Marantz SR6014 and Klein dac respectively. I’ve always been pretty happy with the sq. When I can be bothered to play my CD player I can pick a very slight improvement in detail but as I get older the convenience of streaming is just too good. My question is would investing in a dedicated streamer be a noticeable improvement worth my hard earned? How much would I need to invest in round figures to get said improvement? Or are Smart TVs an acceptable source? appreciate any feedback cheers Edited October 19, 2022 by Braddles 63

wolster
I would borrow a Bluesound Node from your favourite Hi-Fi shop. At around $900 it will give you a good comparison.

notsobitperfect
I've done a comparison of an Nvidia shield out through USB vs a Squeezebox - and the squeezebox was noticeably fuller sounding. I think the reason came down to the audio implementation on Android - which resamples everything to 48khz. If your Smart TV is Android based you'll have the same issue. One workaround I used was to buy USB Audio Player Pro - which levelled the playing field - the difference now isn't that discernible.
Braddles 63
Well i answered my own question... Recently purchased a Ever Solo Streamer and running it through the same Klein dac has netted a noticeable improvement in SQ. So if anyone else is wondering like i was (and I'm assuming due to the lack of response there aren't many) that a dedicated streamer is better that Chrome cast from your TV then IME the answer is yes...

My wife plays her music by using a DC modded Apple TV via HDMI (WW Starlight) to TV and then onto my DAC/Pre via optical (WW Supernova). She likes the GUI on Apple TV I think. It sounds surprisingly good, I'll admit and is easy to use. I, on the other hand, use an Auralic Femto for my listening and yes, it is an improvement.
