Rookie here. I'm looking to purchase some speaker cables and was wondering about peoples thoughts between Synergistic Research, Townshend or Shunyata. I was specifcally looking at the Synergistic Research Foundation cable or Townshend Isolda. What are peoples thoughts on the above brands? Not looking to spend crazy money.

I have owned speaker cables by Shunyata Research and my current speaker cables are the SR Atmosphere Excite speaker cables. Both Shunyata and SR make excellent cables. The SR Foundation would be equivalent to the Shunyata Venom range and either brand will deliver the goods. Construction quality for both Shunyata and SR is very good. I currently use SR Foundation Power Cords (AU plugs) and they are excellent value for money.

I bought all my current SR cabling through the Cable Company(US) and Highend Electronics* (California).Hope this helps.

AV Gallery in Ringwood is your go-to option for Shunyata Research products in Australia. SR doesn't have a dealer in Australia hence the US companies mentioned. If you order SR cables there is usually a 14 day delay whist your order is made at the SR Factory. Worth the wait!

Synergistic Research has a new speaker cable (SR 30) on the market which is cheaper than the Foundation range. Also go to the Highend Electronics website to see the current SR special offer promotions at the moment. Alfred Kainz who owns Highend Electronics is a great bloke to deal with.

Cheers

Mick

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond Mick! That's awesome. Most probably going with SR foundation as I found some second hand.

Are you liking the Foundation?

Try putting an Akiko Universal Tuning Stick on them right where they connect to the speaker binding posts.

You will not be disappointed. Be worth thinking about the SR Interconnects as well.

Mick

I'll have to start saving mate.

Even though the Aussie $ is aweful, buying SR gear from Highend Electronics in California is a bit less painful with them offering Free Shipping on all orders. Great company to deal with.

The benefit if trickled down tech can not be underestimated.  For instance, the Atmosphere X Level 3 perform similarly to the former Galileo UEF, and by that I mean they just sound a bit different.  As a general rule, Foundation is very similar to the former Atmosphere Level 1 but Atmosphere X Level 1 is better than both, and presumably Atmosphere SX is better again but I haven't seen them on the used markets I follow.

US Audio Mart frequently has SR Foundation and the lower end of the Atmosphere range.  Of course, Usedcables.com does too but typically the prices are a bit higher than US Audio Mart and Audiogon.

For new, Sound Decisions in Singagore are quite helpful, if you don't mind liaising via WhatsApp ... https://www.sounddecisions.com.sg/.  They charge for shipping but have previously given me discount off the retail price.

Also watch for the SR specials each month.

They are on their way. I found a second hand pair at The Music Room in the states. They are in transit. I’ve never heard of a universal tuning stick-

SR produce a Gold and Purple Tuning Chip specifically for their Speaker Cables and Interconnects but I'd wait until the cables turn up. I currently use the Atmosphere Excite Speaker cables and Interconnects and they are great SR products. The Music Room......must check it out.

The music room looks epic. They have a great range of second hand stuff. They advertise quite a bit of stuff on Audiogon.

I mainly check audiogon. Do you recommend US Audiomart? I'm always a bit worried about the second hand market and getting ripped off. I had a look at usedcables.com. Looks like they have some great stuff. I couldn't locate the lengths I was after though.

Thanks Dale. I'll definitely check out sound decisions.

I have bought heaps via US Audio Mart, never a problem really.  Just be careful, check the feedback and legitimacy of the photos etc ... and not mess people around.

Just browsing through the used speaker cables listed on "USEDCABLE.COM" and the range of very high end cables listed at dramatically discounted prices is very tempting. Even with FEDEX delivery from the USA......well!

What was taking your fancy Mick?

They are selling my SR Atmosphere X Excite speaker cables for $2498.......now if they offered that to me as a trade in? I would need to get $1K USD to make it happen?
