Hi guy's now that I have completed construction of the boards I thought I would post some pics of my new line-stage :

The chassis and volume control/switch matrix are on their way. I still have to get the power plugs and sockets to go between the psu and linestage and I realised last night that I have run out of Neotech occ hook up wire.

The next stage is to test all the boards via a variac etc b4 moving onto building everything into the cases.

I have to admit that this kit is a bit beyond my electronics understanding but I was able to follow enough to build the boards and Alan (Monkeyboi) has very kindly offered to help me with the difficult stuff and saftey considerations.

Cheers,

Gordon

Thats great can you give us some tech details of the preamp and where to get the info on the kit? Keep us posted with more photos when you pack it into a chassis.

Cheers mate!

Hi guys , between being sick and having to wait to buy a drill press ,to make all the holes in the cases, work on the pre amp has not gone much further than the pics above.

All going well will pick up the drill press tommorow and then it's a case of getting everything out to Monkeyboi's for testing etc.

Will post my impressions once it is up and runninng.

Finally got all the holes drilled and the line stage assembled:

As the power supply is in another box was thinking of using the HIRSCHMAN C16-1 6 Pole + PE plugs and sockets to connect the 2 units together :

post-131373-0-12288800-1382001891_thumb.

Line Socket Hirschmann C16-1 6 Pole + PE

Hirschmann C16-1 Series or similar connectors offer 4 or 7 way (3 and 6 with plus a P.E. - or pre-engaging - earth contact). The mating parts securely screw together to form environmental protection to IP-67. For further technical information see specifications. A quality industry-standard connector.

Specifications:
Electrical:                           6 Pole + PE
Current Rating:                     10.0A @ 55°C
Insulation resistance:            ≥ 10^8ohm
Voltage Rating:                     250VAC RMS/300VDC
Contact Resistance:             ≤5mohm
Contact Material:                  Silver
Contact Screw:                     Solder
Wire Conductor (max):          0.75mm²
Environmental:
Temperature range:              -40°C to + 100°C
Protection:                          IP67 to IEC60529/DIN40050
Housing:                             Polyamide 6.6
Strain Relief:                       Screw clamp/Ring & Gland Nut (9mm)

Any thoughts on the suitability and quality of those connectors?

Beautiful work mate! Power supply next? Linc

Thanks Linc , shouldn't take too long to do the psu : 8 screw holes and one large hole for the power output connector .... oh! and a hole for the mains switch.

Still tossing up as to what cable to use for the power interconnect , any ideas?

Wow very impressive

I ,David , it will be if it works :)

It has been a lot of fun building it. This one has been built with just the standard parts and a few capacitors I had lying around. If the results are good I will probably make another line stage board with higher quality caps and resistors and a more sophisticated volume control etc but better get this one finished first before I start thinking about spending more money :)

Hi guys , well the final few parts should be arriving soon.

Ordered up some Kiwame carbon film resistors for the important positions , some 16awg teflon 6N Cu cable for the power interconnect and took up AndyR's offer of a pair of 1UF Al in oil Ampohms for use as output coupling caps.

Decided to go with a power interlink lead that's captive at the pre end and uses the aforementioned Hirschman connectors at the psu end. Need to pop down to Jaycar to pick those up next week.

After all that's done the testing stage will begin

Really nice work Ozcall

Are you going to make cut outs for the valves on the lid or leave it open altogether?

Thanks Sierra , will probably make a lid out of black painted mdf until I have finished any tweaking. Once I am happy with the sound I will make cutouts in the aluminium lid.

Hi guy's , the cases and volume control arrived this morning , very pleased with the quality :

Where from, if I may be so bold?

i wonder why you use the audiophiler, it was terrible cap for passive xo, introduced alot of noise and hiss to my tweeter :), i gave up buying cheap caps after that :D
