Warren M. Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) Joe Rasmussen's superb prototype Aurora Maximus speakers will be teamed up with my vinyl record playing system this weekend at the Audiophile Society of NSW meeting. These speakers have been designed by Joe Rasmussen with input from Kiat and Brad. Unfortunately the production cabinets are not yet available, but the sound makes up for the unflattering boxes. There is no disclosed pricing on these speakers, but they are expected to be at the top of the Orpheus product line. Speaker wire will be Anti-Cables Level-3 Reference Series 9-gauge single crystal copper cable. This is amazing cable, normally available at a very modest price (e.g. $208 for an 8' pair including high quality copper spade terminations). Attendees can get these for 20% off from the Australian distributor or US manufacturer The speakers will be placed on MagicHexa decoupling feet with spike accepting shoes, which we heard last month made a very big difference in the Epping hall, under Orpheus Apollo speakers. MagicHexa feet will also be under the valve phono preamp and valve integrated amplifier on the day. The MagicHexa products will be available at a 20% discount for attendees for a short period. You do NOT need to be a member to attend this meeting. Door prizes and product discounts are being offered to attendees, and you can join ASoN for half-price on the day and get even more product discounts and offers. When: 2:45pm - 5:45pm, Sunday September 1, 2013 (Fathers Day) Where: Epping Creative Centre, Dence Park, 26 Stanley Street, Epping, NSW Courtesy RSVP: warren@tec5.com.au More info: http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/53415-keep-september-1-2013-available-for-a-vinyl-extravaganza/ Regards Warren Edited August 29, 2013 by Warren M.
Warren M. Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Note that modestly priced speaker wire and decoupling speaker feet will be available to attendees at a 20% discount (among other discounted products). A pair of short (1 metre) Anti-Cables reference quality 9 AWG speaker wires for mono-block amplifiers will be one of the door prizes. These have high quality gold-on-copper banana plugs which are worth $40 alone. Cheers Warren

davewantsmoore Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Is that actually a picture of the "Aurora Maximus" ... I know them by another name ;-) Pretty darn good speaker
Warren M. Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) Is that actually a picture of the "Aurora Maximus" ... I know them by another name ;-) Pretty darn good speaker Joe used the same prototype cabinet for the Aurora Maximus as the Elsinore which uses the same drivers. The Maximus uses a different crossover network. That's my understanding anyway. AFAIK, the production cabinets look a lot like the style of the Aurora 3.3, without parallel sides and with a rounded rear (Aurora 3.3 shown here). Edited August 29, 2013 by Warren M. 1
Bleek Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hey. I'd love to hear some thoughts on these speakers from anyone who was there? Unfortunately I had to work that afternoon so couldn't make it. I have a new found respect for my Orpheus Aurora 3's after having recently done a bit of listening with view to upgrading. I find them so enjoyable to listen to, and it seems they'll be sticking around for a while.
henry218 Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hi Bleek, I was there, actually it was nothing like the previous photos They perform very very well, it was a large room and i was in the 4th row, clocking at 80-85db avg with peaks prob @88db. cheers henry
