My early exposure to higher fi being Luxman rather than McIntosh, I remain interested in the loony fringe of Japanese products. Some I see, however, that never seem to reach these shores. Things like monstrous Mactone M8L OTL monoblocks that look as if they need 3 phase power and proximity to a substation and a fire service to function. Or Sansui tube gear.

Uesugi is another - our friends at Hi-Fi Do usually have one or two pieces of their gear, and they show up in small numbers on Yahoo Japan.  I get the impression that Uesgui was a TEAC offshoot (like Esoteric), but could well be wrong.  Anyone know anything about them? Heard them?

I believe Teac took over Uesugi at some point and then let them go again. Uesugi were around before the Teac involvement.

Joynet carries a couple of their pre-amps which are rather nice. I enjoy the description of their manufacture. Beautiful handmade wiring work structure by veteran workmen without using a printed board.

There's lots of lovely stuff on the HIfiDo archive of sold gear. You might already have seen these but if not it's a jolly good link to lust over

Also a brand of interest is Phase Tech, i have one of their cartridges and their EA3 phono amp. They make a gorgeous tubed phono, the EA1 which mentions Uesugi in the tube supply. It's a roughish Google translate but you get the picture.
