Hi everybody, I am thinking about picking up some s520's for a bit of a play but see there are differences in what is sold on the net. TCC sell single wire s520's, which is how they are displayed on the Usher website. Trevor Lees however sells a bi-wire capable s520; is one an older model? I see in the s520 thread there is talk of different crossovers, is the better crossover restricted to one variant?

At the end of the day they are a reasonably cheap pair of speakers and I am not overly fussed (I won't be bi-wiring), just thought I'd see if anyone can satisfy my curiosities.

Cheers,

Ruffy

Interesting! Mine are several years old now and are the biwireable model. I didn't know that a single wired version existed!

The crossover upgrade to polypropylene caps thoughout occurred early in the S520's life (the woofer circuit featured a bipolar electrolytic in early production stock), so I'd expect any versions made in the past 4-5 years to have the revised crossover.

The crossover in the single wired models will most likely be identical to the biwireable models, except for the ability to biwire them.

I noticed this a while ago when I bought a pair from TLA - my original cherry ones were bi-wire; the new ones were single-wire and I have to say - the fit and finish were no-where near the old ones.

The S520s I recently bought/sold were from TLA (past 6 months or so). Cherry finish and bi-wire. Finish on the cabinets was very good imo.

Yep, same, the cherry finish pair I bought a couple of months back are bi-wired.
