I have had a Koetsu black in the drawer for a couple of years with a worn out stylus.... I missed the boat on a factory rebuild and couldnt really bring myself to get it retipped with a different profile.

I was chatting to Chris Allman @cafe latte and he has just got a shipment of the genuine Koetsu stylus and hoods in from Japan, popped mine in the mail to him today, cant wait to get it back in rotation.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a "hood"?

I’m no expert but the Koestsu stylus is framed by a plate ( hood) which holds it in place. It would be an obvious sign of retipping if the hood wasn’t there

That’s great news. Fantastic to get your cart up and running again.

I found that one of the most profound differences using the platinum stone bodies (Jade and Tiger Eye) was not the so-called "technicolor" midrange for which the old Rosewood was known, but full bodied bass, with texture and dimension-- not boom-boom, but very visceral on double bass. I listen to a lot of older small combo jazz from the early '70s--am particularly fond of Cecil McBee--and though I've run very good cartridges on this system-- top end Lyras, Airtights, etc., none had the gravitas of the Koetsus. I run them on a Kuzma Airline, which has considerable horizontal mass and works extremely well with these lower compliance cartridges.

I'm new here (Hi, @cafe latte I'm in your backyard), so don't know if you support photos on the site or I need to point to images posted elsewhere. spacer.png

The Jade is beautiful, but that Tiger Eye's radiance almost leaves me speechless 😶

Interestingly, the Jade sounded good right out of the box (it was eventually rebuilt by Koetsu before the company closed). The Tiger Eye was a bit strident when first mounted (I can easily adjust loading but optimal setting was the same) and tamed after about 30 hours, by around 100 hours, was singing beautifully.

 Thanks for that. Good info.

I am a little curious how you have these high end cartridges and don't know what they are, feels like they are stolen.
