For SNA’s Koetsu devotees, it should be known that the future of Koetsu is secure again within the family of the recently depart Sugano Jnr. As confirmed by an industry figure. Luckiky, this will go a long way in protecting such a time honoured, beautiful and intrinsically unique product!

Look forward to its return next year!

So, enjoy what you have now and save for what you thought you may have lost. Plenty of blissful analogue moments in our futures 👍🏻

Nice.  @Doppelganger has a beautiful sample himself.

Best arm with Koetsu carts?  I guess FR66 owners may beg to differ. Both superb.

I have a Verdier Platine also and sporting a Kuzma 4P14 & Schroder CB9.

Before that I had a FR64S. Unless the 66S is a significant improvement over the 64S I beg to differ.

And, the many experienced audiophiles I've chatted to are convinced that the FR arms are superior over the Ikeda offerings. Even so over the SS Ikeda 407. And these people have been there, done that!

FR66S is supposed to be a completely different beast,  hence the 10k plus 2nd hand prices.

but certainly agree, stating that any tonearm is best for a particular cartridge is posturing at best  😀

Perhaps I'll try/hear it for myself some day. But, there are plenty of experienced heads out there that would argue that it's had its day in the sun and that todays advancements offer a handful of better performers.

Risk vs. Reward. All a matter of comfortability, or perhaps more rightly, resignation.

Not quite sure what happened there.

The secondhand marketplace offers one many options at the $10K level that would undoubtedly outperform both the FR66S & Ikeda IT 407 SS.

You happen to be the Australian distributor for Ikeda. Perhaps a little bias has crept in and a need for a wider, more considered vision would benefit your experience.
Arms from the likes of Kuzma, Schroder, Reed, Origin Live, Thales are all great starters for better performance.

Over 40 years tonearms and Koetsu's have both evolved in tandem.

Todays arms definitely hold more currency than the antique FR66S.

I omitted Glanz above. Another very well reputed match with Koetsu's.

Gents, news coming from Koetsu’s longest running distributor is that the company is no more.
The only family remaining after Fumihiko Sugano’s passing was his 82 year old sister and sisters son. They both have decided that they cannot continue the brand by themselves and in typical Japanese tradition, will respect the brand by closing it as opposed to selling to an outsider and risk the degradation of the brands heritage and reputation.

It’s a sad day!

Yes Mark from Nirvana told me as much a bit ago.

Sad nobody could take on the challenge like happened with Decca and other companies like Garrott Brothers.

I wonder what company will fill the void as that design and sound has a big following?
