JCR33 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) Just managed to get through SNA a few days ago. Keith WONG here got me into this link after he contacted me through aca.gr, the Greek audiophile website. I have been a member there since year 2000. You may find my details at the following link: http://cpskal.gr/pop_cheung.htm About 6 months ago, I moved back to Sydney. Life is good here except I miss my audio buddies back in Hong Kong. I hope to slowly build up my audio network here. Edited May 6, 2011 by JCR33
k371n Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Welcome Jack (assuming this is your name from the website you linked). Hope you enjoy your stay here in Aus/Syd/SNA Did you manage to bring all your gear here? When you do have the time you could post up pics of your setup in Sydney enjoy k_

Andythiing Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Welcome - the current weather must make you feel a bit like you have not left HK - be good to hear some stories about the systems you heard when in HK and what you plan now your back in Aus.
2sheds Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 G'day Jack and welcome. I too, am new here. Don't let the 1000 posts deceive you - they were kindly donated by another member. Pretty hard for Sydney to compete with Hong Kong - Hi-Fi heaven, in my opinion. Anyway good to have you on board cheers 2sheds

I hope you've managed to successfully transport all that wonderful gear over here with you. Welcome to SNA; plenty of knowledge, humour and friendliness around here. Hope to hear from you again soon. Phil G Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Hi Jack You clearly have a very understanding wife. Welcome.
JCR33 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Hi guys, Thank you for all the warm welcome... Yes, I have been a very lucky man with a very understanding wife and children. Over the years, I have collected and changed a number of items. Before I moved to Sydney, I had a year of SET tube + high efficient speakers. I sold all my solid states and Kharma speakers. What I have now and managed to shipped over are Avantgarde Trio, Tannoy Westminster, Rogers 3/5a, Kondo Neiro, 47 Lab Gain Card, Almarro a205a, Quad 33 + 303, 47 Lab PiTracer, SPJ turntable, another set of 47 Lab Shigaraki CD + DAC... I am planning to get the Kondo M7 Phono and SFZ and 47 Lab Koma turntable soon... I will be more than happy to post photos that I have taken over the years and hope you don't mind me taking up too much space here. This is just the first picture of my music room in Sydney. I took this about 3 months ago. 1
Grumpy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Wow! some tasty items you have had and have jcr33. the room looks like it would be a little 'bright' sound whise; have you done anything to tame it? Welcome to SNA. Thanks for the pics.
JCR33 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 My Tannoy Westminster sitting in the lounge whilst my son listening out of phase...
Jake Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Welcome to SNA and welcome to Aus JCR. Look forward to some more pics mate! Cheers, Jake

JCR33 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 My small system in Hong Kong for early morning listening.
cheekyboy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 My small system in Hong Kong for early morning listening. Very nice morning listening system:D...........Quad pre and Tuner?.... and are you running a 303 Power Amp? Cheers, Keith
JCR33 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Hi Keith, Yes, Quad 33 + 303 + FM tuner! Very good with 3/5a, what a big sound, giant killer indeed! 303 power amp behind the red footrest...
Chickenism Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Wow JCR (there's that word again!) even your 'small' system is a work of art. Outstanding! Interesting to note the diffrerent approaches you've taken to your systems, particularly speaker-wise...I've not had the pleasure of listening to any of them, but I imagine the Rogers presenting music in a completely different way to the super-efficient Avant's and Tannoys...do your ears take some adjusting when moving from one to the other? And where does your preference lie? Dave
cheekyboy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Hi Keith,Yes, Quad 33 + 303 + FM tuner! Very good with 3/5a, what a big sound, giant killer indeed! 303 power amp behind the red footrest... Yeah Jack, I thought I could see the 303 peaking out behind the poof.....great stuff! Cheers, Keith
cheekyboy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Hi Jack, I see the LP's but no turntable......?
JCR33 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Hi Dave, Thanks again for your kind words. I am just a crazy old fool who just wants to collect stuffs... You are right, my systems are very different indeed and that is why I have them. If they are too similar, then it would be no fun! For my "small" system, even it was up against the wall, it shocked me and many visitors many times over. Not only did it have sound stage, focus was excellent and with the wall as an reinforcement, the midrange and bass were impressive too. Sounded much bigger than what 3/5a can normally deliver! For news and vocals, the "small" system is very enjoyable to listen to. Jack
JCR33 Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Hi Keith, I have not set up my turntable yet as I am still waiting for my new Phono amp to arrive, the following picture was taken before I left Hong Kong. My turntable sitting idle at the moment. My friend is going to lend me a Rhea for the time being, I am hoping to get it tomorrow.
