blybo Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) Hi Guys, I've recently resurrected my old mans Connoisseur B1 and am looking to start buying as much of my music collection as possible on vinyl. Q: How common is it to get a plain Jane CD or download with the vinyl? I play my music in the car or at work as much as I do at home in the HT room so want a digital copy as well without having to pay through the nose for it. Just listening to Boy & Bears new album on Spotify and want to buy the vinyl but it's $44.95 and $60 if you want the deluxe edition with CD and photo vinyl... Is that an outrageous price? automated Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) If you buy from Amazon they (usually) include an mp3 version that you can play and download through their cloud player. There is some more info about it here: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=5946775011 Edited August 19, 2013 by automated
Hergest Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I reckon probably 1 in 3 new records i buy come with a download code, maybe 1 in 20 with a cd. I've never bothered with the download, i suppose they all expire sometime?
Dcf1 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I've purchased around 25 albums on vinyl over the last 6-9 mths, all new but some older than others and would say about 1 in 3 also. Most of the the time its the more independent releases willing to hand over a free download. As for amazon and cloud downloads, I am unable to download any of mine as it says something like service is unavailable in your country.
Smoovie Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I think it depends on the label. I recently purchased 3 recent released vinyl records and 2 came with a download voucher and the other with the full CD album! One gripe i do have about some of the downloads offered is that they're only offered as 192 mp3's which in this day and age is pretty stingy. It should be a minimum 320!
blybo Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Seems like a missed opportunity to promote vinyl to me. If they have your money (at premium rates for vinyl) what does it cost to give you an extra CD or slip of paper? This could be the thing that halts my vinyl collection. And yeah, I'd want a loss-less download, Flac or AIFF (or whatever the iTunes lossless format is called). Edited August 20, 2013 by blybo 1
