You purchase a RECORD for the love and sound quality of it.

You take it out of the cover to find a voucher for an Mp3 download that you can find on any torrent site for free anyway.

Why don't they include something useful like a high res download that may actually be inclined to use.

Thoughts???

yep I completely do not understand what the mp3 download is for really ! never used it !

only can hazard a guess for is if you buy the cd you can rip it or pass it through itunes pretty easily. whereas for vinyl youd need an A/D card on a computer and such. so they give you an mp3 for your iPod ?

I dunno ... maybe some people want to listen to their music on their ipod without going to the bother of ripping the vinyl, and don't like to download MP3s from dodgy sources and infringe copyrights? An MP3 download makes a lot of sense to them.

But given the choice, I would much prefer a hi-res lossless download or even the CD.

Yes, but it's easy to go from high to low res..............but impossible to go the other way!

I'd go itunes plus on the ipod over mp3 any day. :)

FLAC player is $10 on the app store. It's worth it.

Yes, it is irritating. I buy some vinyl and love it but I'm often put off because its a one-system buy, unlike a cd which I can rip and stream to my office. I'd buy a lot more vinyl if it came with a hi res download.

I don't use dodgy downloads but can't see its an ethical problem if you've bought it on other media.

They do include something useful. The record.

Slipping a bit of low res digital into a record seems.......... tainting.

Would prefer an added 7" single instead, or just leave the MP3s out altogether :)

I actually have no problem with it.

The MP3 version goes on the iPod and I can listen to it in the car

Something for nothing, me no complain!

Green apples you say??? Maybe the green grocer should start selling vinyl.

Eating apples is the best laxative I've found.

I've been told coffee and/or a bong work a treat.

I've had one vinyl I bought with the CD, one with a 7" single and a couple with MP3 downloads, both downloads have just been thrown in the bin. I use lossless even on my iPod casue I can hear a difference, so I don't use and have never used mp3, waste of time and space

Agree re the download.  Mine generally never get used.

Thankfully there are an increasing number of new releases that have the CD with the vinyl.

Mark Lanegan, Lloyd Cole, OMD, XX, New Order, Atoms for Peace, Tricky to name a few sitting on my floor.

NONE of these are from the large labels, all independent labels - at least they get it.

I tend to give the mp3 vouchers away but do believe it would be pretty easy to include a flac download with purchase

In general I try not to double up on formats and this way I listen to different music in different situations - records for home, CDs in the car, flacs for running - so in that sense having an electronic download of a record doesn't interest me so much

Slightly off topic but what gives me the sh1ts is records being referred to as vinyls... with all due respect

Depends what you intend to use it for, I guess. MP3 downloads are fine by me- they are only used on my iPod (in car or at work attached to crappy computer speakers), it's easier than ripping and good enough is good enough for me in that application.
