I'm looking to buy a new remote. Currently have an older Harmony & it has served me well. I may go down the Harmony route again.

Needs -

To control components in cabinet behind me.

To control be able to control foxtel within that cabinet from an adjoining room (foxtel split to proj & tv)

I am looking at the Harmony 900. I'm not too keen on the Harmony Ultimate design. Most important buttons are at the top.

Would anybody know if the foxtel remote will work with the Harmony IR transmitter or are they made specifically for Logitech models?

I could go to jaycar & get an IR kit but that wouldn't solve the issue of the components in the cabinet behind me.

Any recommendations welcome.

Thanks

Marantz (or indeed Phillips)- ie: pronto remotes are what I have used, same as brodric above. Completely customiseable to suit your needs.

Like many things there is a learning curve with the Pronto, unfortunately not for those who want plug and play capability. I also have full integration iPad control but I much prefer the Pronto.

have you considered the smart control ?

uses bluetooth via smart phone or iPad  to an IR sender at the equipment. $169 rrp which is really cheap. and have the easy harmony interface with literally no learning curve :)

if want something more extensive can go the ultimate.

I have used a URC MX-880 for the last few years, I then picked up a MX-980 off Gumtree, basically new for $250, they are awesome, I've since picked up another 980 off fleebay for $150! same deal, still had the plastic on the screen. I pretty sure neither of the previous owners had the programming software, which you need, and can get if you know where to look and ask nicely. Yes there is a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, easy peasy. I had a Harmony once, got rid of that quick smart.

The URC MX-700 with some software tweaks shipped as the OEM remote for Parasound Halo Controllers, they were pretty good, and no doubt the 880/980 are even better. But I still like the Pronto Pro remote with its 2-way feedback via wi-fi. I've just bought 2 PolarBear in-wall docks for my Pronto's, very slick!

I ended up getting the Harmony 900 based on what I read on forums etc. I have to play a bit more with it but I am starting to think the touchscreen is very clunky & unresponsive. I saw a Harmony Smart control for $140. Might grab one. For that price it's worth it for the curiousity factor.
