Astrosound Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 My Dr. Feickert Woodpecker just arrived from Pure Music Group (thanks to Warwick and Chris really good service) and I need to make acrylic cover for it. Local Perspex manufacturer asked for cover $175+GST (and no, edges are not gold plated!). Any suggestions for a decent supplier of acrylic material who can do it? Regards
Sir Triode Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 That is about the right price. I was charged $140 incl GST for mine at these guys at Ultimo - http://ausplasfab.com.au/ Speak to Joe at the front desk - nice guy and very accomodating.
gz76 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Don't forget it takes time and materials to create a bespoke cover. I've paid similar money for something made to my specifications in the past. Decibel HiFi has a few pre-fab options up to this price-point you might like to check out, although there's nothing like a custom fit.
Guest Hensa Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 These guys did mine: kfplastics.com.au Also about $150, so the price is not far off the mark, depending on the dimensions.
Krispy Audio Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I've got more suggestions if you don't have luck with those guys but yes, don't pay more than what's already been mentioned.

soundfan Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) I contacted a guy from Sydney on Ebay who was advertising some well made covers using 4.5mm perspex. I was quoted $103 for a 43 x 43 x 15 cm cover. Should have it any time now, will post a picture when it arrives. Edit. 26/7: I should have mentioned that mine was made to order, not one of his stock sizes. Edited July 26, 2013 by soundfan

rusty48 Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Another vote for ausplasfab at Ultimo, same cost. Remember when you measure size to allow one or two cm all around, otherwise one day, when lifting or lowering the cover... You can work out the result.
soundfan Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Wow, that'd have to be the smallest dustcover ever:-) Ah........... yes you are right. Time to edit measurements to cm.
soundfan Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 (edited) My cover arrived this evening. Very very happy. Super well packed, and it's a ripper. Now to find some of those little felt thingy mah jings to stick on the bottom surface to avoid scratching the plinth. A bit dusty still from manufacturing, will clean tomorrow. ferchersan Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Wow, that cover looks solid, Chris I wonder if there will be any change in SQ?
soundfan Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Wow, that cover looks solid, Chris I wonder if there will be any change in SQ? I probably won't play with lid on. It arrived while I was playing a record, put it on to take pics. Triode...will post ebay link tomorrow. 1
Astrosound Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 Uuh, looks very solid, but because of my 7kg cat it has to cover whole gramophone and be sort of fixed not to skid and touch it. Very interesting - 3 sides made of 1 piece and 2 glued, which gives very neat look. Where is that guy, maybe I should wait little bit with money transfer to plastfabs :-) Cheers
analog brother Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 very nice! what is the best way to clean these?
soundfan Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Nice - a link to the Ebay ad would be nice too. Here is a link to seller. His name is Emilio. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TURNTABLE-DUST-COVER-4-5MM-THICK-CLEAR-ACRYLIC-/200946168261?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item2ec95331c5 1

soundfan Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Thanks! Was the $103 including shipping? No. I paid an additional $25 to get it up to Brisbane. Packaging was superb.

Other than thru bloody ebay you simply cannot communicate, pity
Krispy Audio Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Best way to clean this is with a product called Plexus. Surprisingly it seems easiest to source from motorcycle stores (used to clean visors). Also with the protection, I use the clear rubber dots - more discreet than felt if you wanted to try them. Bunnings etc carry the adhesive ones. I adhere to the plinth but you could probably stick to the cover.

Astrosound Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 Yes, plastfabs 52x42x20cm $150+10% for boat people! But I realized I need opening at the back for tonearm connection.
