cyclingsteve Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Hi All, I was helping my folks clean up their house and noticed a pair of my Dad's original AR 12's (he says he bought them in 1970 something)sitting in the spare room. Now I have done some research into these but there is not a lot out there about them except that they were a pretty good speaker at the time. So if anyone knows anything about these I would be interested in any comments on whether I should spend some cash on bringing them back to life, they do currently still work and I'm almost tempted to take them home and hook them up to my Cambridge 851. Will take some pics and a vid to post Steve

surprisetech Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Bit of info available on Hifi Engine. http://www.hifiengine.com/library/acoustic-research/ar-12.shtml Always impressed by the quality and extension of the bass in the AR's from that era. My father in law gave me his AR18's when the foam surrounds on the Woofers perished and the vinyl was peeling off the cabinets. Replaced the surrounds, stripped the cabinets and painted them gloss black, replaced the crossover cap, and they've taken pride of place in my daughters bedroom ever since. If the woofer surrounds on yours are still OK, I'd be refurbishing them and putting them to work! 1
Gee Emm Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 If the woofer surrounds on yours are still OK, I'd be refurbishing them and putting them to work! I'd think about doing it, even if they weren't. Graham 1
