betty boop Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 (edited) for the nitin sawhney fans, he has a limited run of one zero boxsets, with a vinyl, cd and dvd collection being a retrospective over his 17 year career. http://www.cherryred.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=4113 its pretty rare getting any nitin on vinyl so great to see this, I have mine on way http://nitinsawhney.com/onezero.html "Music is born, lives and dies. Vinyl gets that across in a way that the digital world never can." and this is direct to disc ! "An astonishing 35 years after the last live, direct to vinyl mainstream recording, Nitin Sawhney rises to the challenge with his brand new past, present and future unplugged album OneZero. This retrospective was cut live to vinyl with his phenomenal band and special guest Joss Stone, and also features four brand new tracks. Uncompromised by the safety net of post-production editing, multi-tracking or modern sound correction techniques, Sawhney boldly daring to go where no major artist has gone since 1978 recorded seventeen songs from his back catalogue and forthcoming album, as old school as it gets - direct to disc before a live audience at Metropolis Studios on April 6th 2013. Entitled OneZero to commemorate nine studio albums to date (with a tenth – Dystopian Dream – due next year) this extremely limited edition of 1000 deluxe vinyl boxsets will be released by Metropolis Recordings on Monday 24th June, three days before Sawhney's London Roundhouse performance on Thursday 27th June. OneZero features the entire performance across five Vinyl LPs (cut live simultaneously with Nitin's performance), and the deluxe boxset also features a CD version of the recordings, exclusive bonus session material across a further CD and on vinyl, a deluxe 24-page booklet featuring stunning artwork from renowned artist Paul Benney and a short film on DVD about the making of OneZero, along with three full-length performances from the session. mrbuzzardstubble Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I'm a fan of Nitin Sawhney but alas I have no turntable. However,I will keep an eye out for his new one. Thanks for the heads up. Did you see him perform on Q&A several months ago? That was pretty good.:-)
betty boop Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) Hi buzz yes huge fan of nitin, my forum signature is courtesy of him Yes I saw him on q&a along with nicki wells. Just astonishing ! Went to see him live the day before at melb arts centre. Truly amazing. It's ironic that first time I heard his work was on vinyl demoing a turntable I would buy. I'm totally enthralled by his music. The amazing artists he brings together, beautifull music and sublime instrumentations. I can't wait for this set ! If not vinyl you'll find it on cd iTunes etc too so don't have to miss out Edited July 13, 2013 by :) al

betty boop Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 Here's a copy of a recent interview of Nitin that appeared in the Times of India which many of you may not have read. Nitin.doc he is definitely pretty political in his thinking, if ever get the chance try get hold of the prophesy dvd. its great viewing. gives a bit of an insight into nitin. I particularly enjoyed the bit about his trip to australia arnhem land etc ps from the transcript above the below gives bit more background to onezero and its production. "I've just released OneZero, an album cut live and direct to vinyl with no post-editing and no multitracking. The last time this was done was 35 years ago by Thelma Houston. The Beatles went to magnetic tape."
mrbuzzardstubble Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I've seen the Prophesy DVD in JB Hi Fi on many occasions going for $10. I've got the Thelma Houston album-I've Got The Music In Me-on Sheffield Lab plus Crossfire's direct to disc album-both on vinyl. 1

In case wondering the band is. nitin - guitar and piano Rahel, Tina Grace, Nicki wells - vocals Aref durvesh - tablah and dholak Martyn kaine - drums Ian burdge - cello Danny keane - cello (bass) Ashwin srinivasan - Bansuri flute and vocals Joss stone - vocals on I ask you all recorded mixed and mastered at metropolis ..back to the music...
mrbuzzardstubble Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 (edited) Nitin always has good vocalists on his albums. Edited July 17, 2013 by mrbuzzardstubble

I agree mr buzz I heard rahel, tina grace and nicki wells live when he came to melbourne. they are truly amazing vocalists indeed, each in their own right ! I just finished listening to the entire set. I dont think Ive ever done that ever with an LP boxset ever ... listen to every disc all the way through one after the other ! and I loved it...so many lovely tracks wondering if I should fire up the projector and watch the dvd hehe..why not ! this is turning into a nitin sawhney night Edited July 17, 2013 by :) al
betty boop Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 finished watching the DVD, goes for 45min. well worth a watch. Some beautifull performances on it. Also hear first hand nitins perspective on vinyl, and how this project came about. It really is a celebration of his work to date. And as he says it is quite unlike the versions released to disc so far or youd see live. Also get to appreciate what a difficult exercise it is to pull something like this off. I find it intriguing too that this was cut direct to disc live on april 24 and was released as box set on june 24th and am listening and enjoying it in my lounge room today. anyways an enjoyable evening it has been for me the dvd bringing it home. as a nitin fan really looking forward to his next album he mentions
Sentient Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Mine shipped during the week. I hope it arrives as quick as yours did. I shouldve checked Amazon. But ahhh, doesnt matter. 5 x lp's at 45rpm, recorded direct to disc,,,, I cant wait. Did you get any noticable louds pops on any of the lp's Al? Recently I have started cleaning my new lp's before their first play, as my hit rate of pop's on new records has been more than I would like. How were these?
betty boop Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 great to hear Oz ! yes do hope yours gets to you quick louds pops are usually static. and one thing I noticed oz now you mention it was while handling the amount of static coming off the discs were plain crazy ! I used the antistatic brush a good few times over and over before playing and I use an anti static mat on my TT. there was still one loud pop I recall but thats it over the entire set of discs. oen thing lacking is the discs are just straight in cardboard sleeves which I dont think is good for static or for their own protection. so planning to get some decent inner sleeves with my next order from vinyl eye look forward to reading how you find this collection. and do watch the dvd if get a chance
Sentient Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Got it! I'll be putting this set aside for that perfect night, where I can listen to the 5 lp's uninterrupted. Doesnt happen often, but I look forward to it. 1
