Who else owns and uses a Clear Audio turntable or a Clear Audio TT package (TT, Arm and possibly CA cartridge).
I know of one other in Adelaide but I’m sure there are more in SA and other States / Territories
Mine is a vintage Avantgarde Magnum CA TT with upgrades and using a SME-V arm and a Lyra Kleos MC cartridge.
Upgraded to the Ceramic Magnetic Bearing and added the Smart Syncro speed controller.
The heavy plinth sits upon 4 Isoacoustics Orea suspension feet (not in picture, they are the old feet).
Platter mat is a Funk Firm Achromatic.
Furutech AG-12 phono cable into a Lundahl SUT and a GoldenAgeAudio Reference Phono amplifier both built by DUC (RIP) to his top specifications.

I picked up a couple Clearaudio TT’s recently from Audio Connection as part of their clearance sale. A Concept Wood which had a Satisfy Kardan arm, replaced with a second hand Tracer, and an Innovation Compact with a 10 inch Unify tonearm. Added a 24v Professional Power supply to the latter and have ordered a 12v version for the Concept.

Build quality is first rate with Clearaudio. Will post photos later.

Thinking of changing the Unify tonearm for another Tracer. The Basic V2 is an extraordinary phono stage and the build quality is fabulous.

I own a ClearAudio Concept and found it truly excellent in terms of reliability and sound quality for the $$. It was also super easy to setup. Build quality is great.

I initially used it with a Concept MM cartridge but when I ruined that through my own clumsiness I introduced a Concept Aluminium MC and noticed the improvement.

I finally replaced the ClearAudio Concept TT with a more expensive TT but have kept it for other systems. I note this TT still appears in Stereophile and TAS annual lists of great products even though it had been around for donkeys.

I finally finished setting up my Concept today.

IMG_9022.thumb.jpeg.81d68ace896648c02d37ad34f2a98b38.jpeg

It’s running a Trans-Fi Terminator 3 Pro linear tracking air bearing arm and an Audio Technica AT-ART9XA cart.

The stand is a custom made item.

Looking excellent. That’s probably the most creative set up I’ve seen with a lot thought gone into it. I’ll try one of those AT carts one day.

Cheers.

I've not heard one of these carts yet. I bought this one new after hearing the top model OC9 from the AT stable. The OC9 is quite a bit cheaper but it shook my world. So, I have high hopes for this one.

I can't comment on the sound yet as my pre is away being serviced.

How affective is the custom stand?

Untested at this stage as that gap in my Cyrus stack on the left is where my preamp will fit when I get it back from a service.

It is modeled along the lightweight and rigid ethos Rega espouse but, with the low slung counterweight to lower the centre of gravity. I’ve also employed 6 Isoacoustics Gaia III footers to offer some measure of decouple from the slab.

At this stage, all I can say is I hope the system performs well. The trouble is, everything (room, table, arm, cartridge, cables) is completely different to what I had with the Rega in Westend before Christmas. This’ll make it difficult to pin down where specific improvements come in and what they’re attributed to.

“Bumping” it doesn’t budge it. The counterweight alone is 10kg (nothing compared to CA Statement counterweight at 80kg) and it sits about 40mm off the floor. The whole thing is very solid with a small amount of compliance from the footers.

I could go more mass in the counterweight but then I’d have to invest in Gaia II footers at each leg and possibly change out the trimarang top from marine ply to steel. Might be costly. (Would be fun to try though)

Hi All,

Does anybody have a Clearaudio tonearm that uses the same adjustment for the tracking weight as the attached pic?  Mine is very stiff to turn. And I'm wondering if other owners is stiff also

thanks

No, but I see some owners have had problems and ended up with the mechanism stripped inside. Also if you have to apply a lot of pressure you could potentially damage the bearings. I suggest write to Clearaudio. You could try a little penetrative oil between the knob and the end of the stub.

Also have you checked your cartridge weight - you could be at the end of the range of travel if your cartridge is too light or too heavy. This would suggest stiff in 1 direction only.

Hey Nick,

Thanks for the advice. The tonearm was like that out of the gate. I bought the turntable "package" as a show room demonstrator from the biggest retailer in the biz. The tracking weight read 6gms out of the box..... yikes.... So I hoofed off  with said turntable to the then importers.  They adjusted the tracking to the correct weight and the VTA adjusted slightly up. The antiskating was left as is (as it had been set at the factory).  No mention at the time was made of the tracking weight mech being defective.

Since the turntable is still effectively under warranty I won't be penetrating anything with oil, just yet.

My German speaking friend has reached out to Clearaudio.

cheers

I have the Tracer tonearm and it’s a little stiff to turn but overly so, feels quite normal to me.

Clearaudio has always been quite responsive to my emails so you shouldn’t have a problem contacting them.

Yep, I've come to that conclusion too.

They did respond.....

Hi all,

As I currently own the innovation compact, I was wondering if you can upgrade the compact to the innovation, that is the additional level and the sub-platter?   I'm aware there is a flat belt upgrade, was just wondering if the remaining mentioned components can also be added.
