Midori Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) I bought a display set of speakers from a retailer in Victoria. There seems to be just one issue. One of the speaker terminals was blocked. I could not figure out what it is but it does look like some sort of "soldering" material as it is very dull in color and was fused tight on the banana plug hole. I had attempted pushing through with a banana plug to no avial. I imagine that to fix this, I could have the speaker terminal replaced. My question is this, should I: 1) atttempt to order one speaker terminal in and do the replacement myself. Any idea what sort of cost it would be? 2) does anyone has someone who you could refer to have this looked at in Perth WA? What sort of cost estimate should I be looking at 3) Use a soldering iron to attempt to remove the item. Any idea if the heat would damange the speakers in anyway? 4) Live with it and use spades instead. My only misgiving is that when I need to move these speakers on when I upgrade in future, I get penalised on price for this item 5) return the item for a full refund which the retailer had gracefully offered. Thing is that I bought this at half the normal retail price and it is a very good set of speakers. So it would be sort of a shame to return them. Edited July 10, 2013 by coeuslee
wolster Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Whereabouts in Perth are you? If reasonably close to the Morley area I suggest that you send a PM to ozcal who, I'm sure would look at it for you.
Midori Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 Wolster, thanks for the advice, I had gotten in touch with Gordon. However, after much thoughts, I have decided to return the items to the retailer. Afterall, it is not fair to the retailer for me to be holding onto this for such a long time while I try to resolve this issue.
Mrjimmy Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 HI there, I was just about to post a subject asking for 'Speaker repair in Perth' when I came upon this post: I have a question about my Pioneer CS99A's. I bought them recently off a friend form work and they are in mint condition. They actually look like they have just come out of the box!!! They sound great to me and every speaker & tweeter seem to be working fine, but should I replace the caps? And is there anyone in the Perth area who could replace the capacitors for me? I am happy to pay you whatever you think is fair! And I am happy to drop them at your house or business or you could come to mine... I am in Shelley. I have them hooked up to my Accuphase e303 and a Technics sl1200. I couldn't find any Business in Perth that will work on Vintage speakers and I would rather have someone from these forums work on them whom I trust. Thanks for your consideration.. John

mackeb Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I can recommend Short Fuse Speaker repair. He repaired my shorted voice coil in my lovely Bang & Olufsen S45-2. Perfect repair and very reasonably priced.
