The Fez Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 My Dad first took me and my brother to "The Motor Show" in Sydney wwaayyy back when it was at the Sydney Show Ground.. Been going ever since.... Sad really.....I've got photos of actual F1 cars that used to be shown...Times have changed.... http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/sydney-motor-show-cancelled-20130705-2pgx1.html
Guest JohnA Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 it is a shame, but i also stopped going to them a while ago as felt it better to just go to the dealers to see the cars i was interested in. The crowds always annoyed me, and to be honest, apart from looking at a car, not much else you could do there.
LogicprObe Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I have to admit..........I only ever went when it was at the Showground because I worked there. I used to like it though! They weren't nothing on the drinkers that went to the Truck Show though............... 1
betty boop Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 seems bizarre, just as we have got the hifi shows going here, the motor show has dropped off the edge ! some years I was bit peeved though when went and all these cars were there but locked up and on pedestals or cordoned off areas. whats the point of that ? and am not talking those prototypes or million dollar look but dont touch cars. am just talking the regular on sale or to be released cars. its no wonder if they do that sort of thing people will just stop going. but lets be sure its not public interest its the lack of interest from manufacturers etc. remember the last show where a whole lot of manufacturers werent even there ? why would you go if they arent there ? I for one do still like going though. if want to go to one place and sample a range of cars thats what a show is for. but yeah without manufacturer support theres no show... 1
RockandorRoll Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 A lot of people say these are useless but i learnt a lot about cars from things like this Subaru's with McIntosh stereos Cheap dodgy handbrakes on Chrysler 300C's Air suspension on Citreon's things you wouldnt bother to look up but these were a great way to spend a few hours. We use to go nearly every year when it was in Adelaide. Not sure what it says about the car industry in Australia...
betty boop Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There is no car industry in Australia..... there is. and we are car nuts. but yeah if they treat the market as though its not important then their wish will come true...
The Fez Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 One of my all time favourites from any motor show. 2005 - The EFIJY Concept is an awsome machine, on a world scale. I was so glad I got to see it in the flesh. And a great example of Australian design and engineering talent. I have always been very interested in the concept cars that have been on show. I think in some ways the most interesting aspect of the shows. This is what I'll miss... I actually went to the '05 show with my wife, who really isn't that much into cars. But we met at a bar at Darling Harbour and I convinced her to go. I ended up having to drag her away from the EFIJY. It is incredible. An emotive machine in many ways.. If anyone knows where it is now let us know! I hope its been kept in perfect condition. Around $1M to produce I think over many years....
Saxon Hall Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There is no car industry in Australia..... Bit harsh there Uncle Toyota is still operating in Melbourne and what about Holden they are still operating in Vic and SA. Probably the industry is doomed long term but I guess until then It is a bonus for the people who work there.
Sir Triode Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) it is a shame, but i also stopped going to them a while ago as felt it better to just go to the dealers to see the cars i was interested in. I concur with the same sentiments. The last motor show I attended for was the one in Brisbane in Y2K. And the bloody tickets were not cheap. Edited July 5, 2013 by triode12
Ralph Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 i only went for the new models Yeah - but what about the cars ?
Batty Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I went to the motor show in 2002 in Adelaide, thought it was a pretty pathetic effort and waste of cash, have not been since.
analog brother Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Yeah - but what about the cars ? nah, only if they were porsche, but i've seen all of those anyway..
Stump Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 So now I have to go all the way to Bangkok to see a Motor Show!!
