Parkway91 Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Hi guys Have my new turntable system all set up now and am having a great time spinning away. Having some slight trouble with some of my vinyls. Some of my vinyls have a distortion issue, especially with vocals on 's, f, th' sounds and some bass drum hits. It is not the system as other vinyls work fantastic and sound perfect, so I assume it's just an issue with those certain vinyls. They are brand new modern pressings of recent albums. So I am just wondering what steps I should take to help this issue or if it's just a bad pressing or something. Thanks.

JCM Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Static?? I Had similar problem with new records, can try cleaning them too if you have a RCM or spray, is cartridge metal body? are all earths attached properly?
eman Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 bit OT but... Received some shocking sh!thouse distortion records today. Complete waste of money. Actually vinyl version of recent CD compilation. Was prepared for digital mastering but sounds like they don't have anyone there who knows how to press a record at all.
Parkway91 Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Possibly, I am yet to try a few things, looking for a few ideas to try from you guys, will try brush and spray. The cartridge is not metal body. It is a Numark TTUSB with stock cartridge.
Geoffcb Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I've bought new vinyl that is so charged, it's difficult to remove them from the sleeve! So before playing, I clean all new vinyl with my Knosti, just as I would any old vinyl. If the sleeve is just paper, I also use a new sleeve. I suppose vinyl production is like any trade or craft; it's easy to lose expertise and difficult to regain it! I would think the same applies to good mastering. Geoff 1
ochremoon Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Just because you don't hear it on all records doesn't mean that it's not the system setup. Cartridge alignment is critical. A bit of dust on the stylus can also cause this.
Batty Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I find dust makes the sound 'muddy', check setup again.
