I watched this today.

The reviews have it pretty spot on - a very bland interpretation of a good book.  The screen commercialisation had more promise as a HBO series than a movie.

There was no character development - what so ever.  The viewer had no investment in the main character.  The supporting roles were embarrassing in their content and delivery.

Individual scenes did not bear the slightest scrutiny.

Leaving one's brain in neutral is not enough nowadays, one must check it in at the counter.

The CGI was not enough to justify entry.  There was nothing new.  It has all been done before, and better in other movies.  The major scenes had all been covered in the trailers.

I would not even recommend this on DVD.  Only for the Brad Pitt fans.

If zombies are attracted to noise, perchance use noise to provide a distraction?
Pickup/transport people and drop them off on ships/safe havens with no prescreening? Seriously?
If I build a big wall around a city and have helicopters in orbit I would man them with personnel that have functioning eyes. You did not notice that ramp of undead scaling your huge wall?
No intercom or telephone in the lab? Did not think to use a phone ringing as a distraction in other zones of the WHO facility?

I could go on...

I went in with low expectations and they were met, in some places exceeded, had some genuine scares, 3D gave me the shites though. Not the best flick ever, but a fun couple of hours for me

I liked Prometheus too though

I liked Prometheus, but I'm not a fanboy and owe nothing to Ridley Scott or film noir in general. It entertained me and it looked great.

I love zombie films of all kinds.

I will probably get this on DVD later this year I would say. Large scale commercial zombie films are pretty much done to death now.

I noticed on the billboard that after arising into what appears to be a totally destroyed world, the pocket flaps on this cotton trousers are neatly starched and ironed!

Oh, well. :(

Just a quick note on Prometheus below par and as I originally thought almost B movie creds, I read this Prometheus Plot Explained and even though I haven't watched it again yet is very interesting reading and has changed my thoughts.

Originally unaware was a zombie flick with Pitt in the lead, an odd casting that makes me wonder/dubious about the film itself.

I thought the speed of the zombies was a really scary change. No more Resident Evil ambling around stuff.

I have no idea what the original book was about but for the most part, the pace was fast enough not to question the logic at times.

Spoilers in white below

I thought that they could have used the recording light (turn on and off) to communicate in the viral lab. Overall, I saw it just as a simple detective novel, following the clues. It was dumbed down a lot so you could have figured it out earlier but it was IMHO fairly entertaining a flick. I had not seen the zombie on a plane scene before and boy, that really got me. It was so claustrophobic, and it really seemed like there was no escape.

Saw it tonight. I didn't think it was that bad.

Yes there were holes but jeepers what movie these days doesn't

I did really see it has a zombie movie but more thriller along the lines of outbreak or contagion.

It want perfect but it was better than a few things I've seen lately including Prometheus (oh dear)

Just had a look.

As above it had a few holes...But how bloody intense are those zombies.

First movie in 20 years that had me looking over my shoulder when I went outside for interval.

How can zombies be intense? They are meant to be undead!

Liked it more than I thought I would.  Not being much of a Pitt fan I liked the way the supporting characters weren't always killed off, that way I didn't have to watch just him saving the world as per usual.

I thought it was a hoot.   Plot holes in a Zombie movie :sorry:   I think it's call suspending believe but what would I know, I was too busy getting off on those 0-100mph Zombies.  They were cool.  Loved it in my house.  1080p version came up a treat.

not usually one to watch zombie movie, but this is one I really enjoyed :)

I watched in 3D with the projector and done quite well for that. the audio in parts was mind blowing, wow 1 hour into the movie the bass wave that pulsates through the room is really quite something wow wow wow. hollywood is really getting quite adept in use of bass to effects. definitely a subwoofer needed for this movie :)

watched it last night also, man, almost fell asleep

Definitely agree with the falling asleep apart! I only watched the whole thing because it was one of the big budget movies of the year.

saw this last night on blueray, Agree with most posts on this film

it has its moments and also some dull moments, the sound was pretty impressive thou through the 7.1

overall not a bad movie,  but turn it up to get a better experience :)

definite stand out on the 7.1 audio track that added impact, suspense and overall effect. from opening scenes to all the way through. I for one really pleased to see holy wood using audio to such effect :)

Watch it last night in Bluray it has DTS sound option in the sound settings I think the normal DVD has it too. Hope you guys switch to 7.1 DTS if you have it on your rig, instead of 7.1 Dolby. As DTS is so so much better than Dolby top to bottom, more realistic in every way.

Cheers George
