Does anyone know how to stop them? I was on a no call registry once but have received 5 calls already today.

Posted

Dodo called me today. When I told them sorry but I am working now, they then asked me who I used for my internet. When I repeated myself they said they'd try me again tomorrow. I said not to bother, let's see what happens!

It annoys me to no end yet I'm sure they get conversions hence persisting.

There are laws about this in Australia. Make sure you are on the official do not call registry - register again to be sure. There's separate ones for mobiles and landlines from memory.

Are the calls from a company you've done business with in the past? I believe they're still allowed to call you but you should have the option to opt out.

Y.M.

You might need to re-register again as this site has changed its policy a number of times. I think it used to offer 3 or 4 years of service but has since updated this to 8 years since 16/4/2013

Here's the link.

https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

Registration is free and open to anyone with a personal phone or fax number they wish to keep private.

It's a good idea for everybody to utilize this service as we rarely get phoned anymore.

Your 5 calls today sounds like.a scam to me so just press the hash key to order your drugs  piss the caller off. Apparently the screech over the phone line is pretty unbearable.

most of ones we get are from india. obviously random ones where they have got your number off white pages online or something. I just tell them to never ever ring us again. and hang up.

anytime there is a delay on answering when pick up the phone we just hang up. its usually an unwanted sales call.

I just say "I'm not a prospect, you are better to go onto your next call"

They normally understand this.

I do the same as Al, for the delay ones.

Two words to fix your problem:

Private number

It works for us, no telemarketing calls, ever! Although you will need to change your number for that to be effective.

You need to be lucky with the Private numbers, as many of them have been previously been listed under others names. So while you might not get calls addressing you, you can get calls addressing those people that owned the number before, many call centers work off old listings.

But if you have a number that has never been used previously, sure :)

Yes, I re register about every 3 to 6 months, they just start up again and I re register. Sigh. The only reason I leave the thing plugged in is because my Mum calls on the landline, she must think she has to wear an alfoil hat to call my work mobile or something.

That's when she's getting streaks in her hair.

Calls from a land-line to mobile are expensive!

I tell them there is someone at the door and to hold on for a sec, then sit down and continue watching the tv or whatever else you were doing.

Seeing how long they wait is great fun. They never call back.  cheers.

They will do what the computer tells them to do.

Haha, yes Logic.

They have a mobile as well Data, on all sorts of deals. I dunno, maybe it's just habit or what she is comfortable with. I must say I woud rather talk on a landline phne, I am tipping mobiles will be the new age cigarettes...I don't like stuff that gets hot....

Persistance pays off. After 2 or 3 times they stop calling. The best part is hearing a little voice coming from the phone...hello?....hello?.....hello?.   Its a cracker.

i used to just sit in front of the telly and string them along for as long as I could.

My best was 45 mins before the penny dropped that I was wasting their time and money.

I'm on the 'do not call' register, but I still get these calls from time to time. They seem to come in clusters, then not at all for quite a while. Last week I had a flurry of them for about three days. 4 or 5 calls in the evenings spaced about half an hour apart.

My way of dealing with them is not to answer the phone. All my landline calls are intercepted by my answering machine. If I'm home and I hear a voice I recognise, I pick up the phone, otherwise not. The telemarketers and scammers usually just hang up as soon as they hear the recorded message. Eventually they give up trying, for a while at least.

Buy a cheap answering machine and leave it on 24/7.

The telemarketers now use computers that sense the answering machine and hang up before it actually answers.

When you are home you can listen until you hear a voice, and then decide to pick up or not.

Just hang up but there's fun to be had too. If it is an Aussie charity I say no thank you but if it's the Indian 'Microsoft' criminals I tell them 'my mother died this morning' or 'my baby son was killed today'. Some ask if tomorrow would be a better time to call. Okay, so I'm evil ....
