Hmmm.

Nice price. Thinking about these for an indulgence. I mean, you know, I don't actually need these at all, but I reckon I have one of my amps that would just be magical with these and I should be able to find room. WAF is no issue ;)

@Krispy Audio. What are the main differences between this and the Union model? I have heard some Unions and I know someone who ( may be ) selling them but they are so good he probably won't. Just curious if the Soul or the Union are quite different from each other and which would be the best choice?

Cheers.

Regarding the cabinet I'll have to confirm the thickness. Going by the weight and a quick tap, I'd be guessing it's 3/4", but it's a multi-layered design of comp60-HDF, polyester and QuietCoat (added internal damping).

I need to spend more time with the Souls to give you a good answer re the differences to the Unions but it is subtle. All specs are otherwise identical, you have less parallel sides on the Soul shape, you'd be splitting hairs with the difference. I'd be basing my choice on looks rather than performance between the two to be honest. I'm using the Unions right now and loving them. I've also got a new pair available in honey walnut for a good price so if anyone preferred the shape they're a good option.

Spoken by the man himself re:soul/Union differences. Very interesting reading as I have also been scratching my head over the Soul Mk2/Union release which appear to be essentially the same speaker.

Sean Casey Yes, Soul [Mk.II] and Union use the same driver, but the different size/shape, cabinet processing and different internal cable harness result in a different sound. And while the basic measures specs are quite similar the Soul has more resolution of detail throughout the bandwidth, and the more detail and less noise in the bass gives you better and deeper sounding bass compared to Union. Soul is also more refined and linear in its frequency/amplitude response, giving it a more relaxed and confident sound (cat) where Union is a bit more excited but a bit rougher (dog). They also project the sound into the room differently, as you've noticed. This is not always predictable; Soul with it's two degree rake puts a bit more of the stereophonic space into the room. Sure you can lean the Union back for a similar effect.... Depending on the room/floor interaction Union can be a bit more effected and a bit less predictable, a bit more fussy.
