Guest Muon Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Hi Tim Post a thread in the turntable section, will get more response, if someone has one. Edited July 10, 2013 by datafone
Sir Triode Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) Looks interesting. Brand is "Magi" as in the tribe not "Maggi" though. Update - price now is $750USD. It is handmade with point to point soldering. Made by Mark Voight who is highly regarded for his HH. Scott equipment restorations. Some say it is competitive with phono stages costing $12K. Guest Muon Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Wow, if this is near correct, it looks like something to watch.
Sir Triode Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I've emailed Mark - Just waiting for him to respond.
Sir Triode Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) Mark has responded - prices have gone up since last year. The Magi Phonomenal Phono Stage is still in production. These are custom order pieces and we are currently taking orders to be delivered in September. Through word of mouth and postings at audio forums, we have been able to maintain constant inquiries and orders. Each phono stage takes about 50 hours of work. I apologize for being so backed up with orders but I guess people like our product! Our phono stage is completely hand built, point to point wired and top quality components are used throughout while meeting a low price point. Our goal is to deliver a product that will effectively compete with and exceed performance on phono stages up to about the $3000 price range. This phono stage is a 4 tube, cathode follower design utilizing the 6DJ8, 6922 or the Russian 6n1p tube which is what we supply the phono stage with. These tubes are more resilient and tend to be much quieter (less noisy) than the 6DJ8 varieties. The phono stages are now available with inputs for TWO stereo turntables...if you want mono, simply use one side of the input. These inputs are selectable from the front panel. We also supply variable capacitance and resistance with front panel selection switches and variable volume control. All these features are things you will generally only find in pre amplifiers costing $3000 and UP. This is a MOVING MAGNET phono stage only. If you have a moving coil, you'll need a head amp or step up amp/transformer. These can be ordered in either 110/120 or 220/240 varieties. The power cord is a removable IEC type connector. Panels on BOTH the front and back of the unit are ETCHED Aluminum (writing will never wear off) and the chassis itself is aluminum which helps suppress ANY ac or radio interference that may be present. This phono stage is INCREDIBLY quiet. Current pricing is $850 plus shipping (Generally $25 in the US and about $70 international). There are no discounts. Currently there is about a 2 month lag period between your order and shipment of the unit. These are built as ordered on a first come first serve basis. Your wait time is easily offset by the quality and performance of the unit once in your hands. Attached are pictures. Thanks so much for your inquiry. Mark Voigt. Edited July 10, 2013 by triode12

metal beat Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 here was I thinking it was a Maggi soup phono stage - chicken noodle?
Grimmie Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I've been waiting for the right phone to come around the bend for a while too, so would also like to know about the Magi. Doesn't look like anyone here with experience of one yet. The GA is getting on for three times the price so maybe not a good comparison, but I have heard one in a friends system and it seemed to me that there was no mistaking it for anything but tubes. Very warm and liquid, just the sound the owner was wanting, but probably too much so for me. Lovely build though. The Gra. Slee ReflexM with PS that I had on loan recently was about that cost and I was very impressed. Shallow that I am only the silver finish kept me from tipping into purchase, though still might . Don't you love the 'comparable with phono's at three times the price' from the blurb. That means the Magi must be at least as good as @Lovetubes and three time better than the Reflex! - Maybe..........maybe. 1
