Dr Good Vibe Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) Doing some searching for master tapes etc there are members that have a number of these including myself. This just a list of what good recordings are around and what to look out for. Edited July 1, 2013 by Dr Good Vibe
Once was an audiophile Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I know the struder member well i am resisting to tapes but threads such as this make it very hard not to join the r2r club
Dr Good Vibe Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 Come on you know you want toooooooooooooooo. Yep that member is a lucky man but he's done the work to find them.
Dr Good Vibe Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 I'm looking at a ATR 102 for him with a bit of luck think he's won Tatts.
Full Range Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) I am about to start a 10.5". R2R music collection as I currently only have 7" reels at present Just scored a Sony 10.5" spool on eBay ( Woo Hoo) At first I plan to purchase some brand new RMGI 10.5" X 1/4" tape, and record my favourite music on them Still need to purchase a set of sexy metal Nab adapters and I will be ready to go Still would be interested in a reference tape for calibration purposes Edited June 30, 2013 by Full Range
Dr Good Vibe Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 FR the callibration tapes are just exactly that you must have a nice setup to use them in your workshop. Might get around to that but way easier to get Surg to do it. Rather spend the dollars on studio taps the quality is well worth it.
Bigwheel Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) If anyone is interested in a group buying tapes from overseas, we could combine our orders to reduce shipping costs. I am currently considering buying some tapes from UltraAnalogue and Master Tape Sound Lab's. Edited July 1, 2013 by Bigwheel
Full Range Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) I need to get my act together first But I am sure sometime in the future I will need to source some well recorded tapes from reputable suppliers Priority now is some metal Nab adapters ( anyone have a spare set that wants to part with them ) Edited July 1, 2013 by Full Range
Dr Good Vibe Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) Cadd size doesn't matter I've got some 7" 4 track nos reels coming from japan just has to be good quality. Will have recomendations soon. Edited July 1, 2013 by Dr Good Vibe
c0redumpt Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I'm interested and will be watching with interest... have to get my teac x2000 serviced and up to spec
PixelPlay Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 The buy would be to save on shipping and not the master tapes.
andyr Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Hey Doc, tried to pm but not working..... Have you strayed from the (vinyl) path of the righteous and gone over to RtR, Greg? Regards, Andy
PixelPlay Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Hey Andy, It's all good fun, spins around and plays music You have still got to stop buy to help set up the maggies. Regards Greg
Dr Good Vibe Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Not a bad idea tho woadi what sort of blank we talking , we could buy pancakes and reel out what we want or complete reels at what size you need. What brand do we mostly use RMG or ????????? for calibration .
woadl Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Not too sure of the brand but I would be after some 10.5" 1/4 inch tape. I do have some blank reels I'm new to this so would be guided by what people have found to be good At the moment I have an Akai GX 635D an Akai GX 636 and a Teac A 4430S thats in mint condition but what I would like to end up with is a Technics 1500.....so if anyone out here has one just sitting ?
Bigwheel Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Woadl funny you should ask. There might be a Technics RS1500 available. I know of one that a friend has for sale. in very good condition. PM me if your interested.
Bigwheel Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Interesting article in Positive Feedback on some recent tape releases. http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue68/tape.htm The refurbished Technics has arrived and I will be interested to play the UltraAnalogue tape and possibly get a few others from time to time, and as finances allow.
