Hi All,

There is a pair of Infinity RSa speakers fairly local to me for sale for $180.

I know nothing about these and I had no luck finding these specific speakers in a search.

Just seeking opinions on how good they might be and any specs would also be appreciated, as I could use another pair of speakers here... many thanks in advance!

Good Morning Mr Happy Pants,

Thanks for that - are they a bit of an acquired taste or are problematic in some way?
I forgot to mention that one has a 'blown fuse'... whether this is a potentially big problem I don't know...

Thanks

180 Bucks is OK, but the RSb was a far superior model. Essentially, the RSb used the same (excellent) bass driver + (excellent) tweeter, but also had a reasonable midrange driver. The problem with the RSa was that coupling a relatively slow 220mm bass driver to the EMIT was flawed. At the very minimum, Infinity models which used 200mm bass drivers were successfully coupled to the EMIT.

Depends on the usage. For a garage speaker, the RSa was OK.

FWIW: When Infinity first released their polypropylene bass drivers and mids, I was rather disappointed. Their paper cones were far superior products. However, I rather liked the 220mm polyprop bass drivers used by Infinity. They were much stiffer, due to the 'curvilinear' cone, than the 300mm and 200 mm drivers used at the time. So, bass driver = good. EMIT = very good. Implementation = not so good. It really needs a midrange driver to work well.

Oh yeah: DO NOT use a fuse rated at more than 1.25 Amp (fast blow) UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! 1 Amp (fast blow) will be fine. EMITs are great tweeters, but can be destroyed rapidly by a clipped amplifier.

Agree very much they need a mid driver.... but not becuase of this

slow 220mm bass driver

There is no such thing as a "slow" or "fast" driver .... just ones which can play higher or lower frequencies    ;-)

That being said, I don't know how much could go wrong for $180  <shrug>

Everything ZB is true. A listen is required for you to make a decision.

If you buy them, you MUST make sure that both tweeters work, using the correct fuse.

Thanks to everyone for all the excellent advice, particularly about the fuse and tweeters...
I'm in two minds about these speakers at this point. Does anyone know their max. power rating? I'd most likely be hooking these up to a Sansui AU-717, many thanks again.

Provided you do not exceed 1.25 Amp fast blow fuses, you can throw almost anything at the RSa. The bass driver has a very healthy voice coil and is very robust. The tweeters are protected by the fuse. The enclosures are sealed, so excursion limits are unlikely to be breached. Like most Infinity speaker of the time, they are 4 Ohm rated. Make certain your amp can drive them. For future upgrades, I'd recommend ripping out the ferrite inductors and replacing them with air core types.
