VAF Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Hi All, Thanks Insiders for all the RSVP's after the Insiders Email. Looks like a bigger crowd is coming this time! The main event will be the first ever SA demonstration of the Devialet D-Premier amplifier with VAF's flagship Signature i93. Find out why John Atkinson of Stereophile said: "Devialet's D-Premier amplifier is the most extraordinary product I have reviewed for Stereophile. Superb sound quality, future-proof design, everything you need in one box—it is the epitome of what a high-end audio product should be. Wow!" You WILL be impressed by this VAF/Devialet combination. Insiders gatherings are a low key after-work 'unwind' events. Drinks (beer & wine) as well as light food on VAF. Feel free to bring your own CD's and vinyl. Other than the amazing VAF/Devialet combination, we'll be showing: New VAF models, some other interesting new gear, and some seriously amazing one-night-only offers to VAF Insiders members. So join us and blow off some steam after work on Friday. Explore new audio equipment, listen to good music, meet and speak with other VAF insiders. SNA members in SA are also welcome to attend. If you can, please RSVP here which will help us plan drinks & food. We know however that it's Friday after work and you may not know until the last minute if you can make it. If you can't RSVP that's ok, it's still ok to just drop in on Friday. This Friday, June 28th, From 5:30pm to around 8:30pmAt VAF, 52 North Terrace Kent Town SA 2
VAF Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Looks like a great night in hand. Thanks to all who have RSVP. We are really looking forward to showing off the new system! It is VERY special. See you all in a few hours
Rhythm Willie Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Well, this is a game changer, never thought I would admit that the Devialet D-Premier digital "all in one" product in such a small stylish chrome unit would "do everything". Evidently there was an investment of 50 million Euro to get this company/product on the market. The worlds best preamp, phono amp, power amp ,Dac and streamer ? All in one small slim package combined with one of the worlds best loudspeaker, very stunning. Late in the evening when most people had left Phil even downstreamed live MP3's that sounded great through this system. No need for anything remotely resembling valve amps after listening to this (yes I am/was a tube fan). Also insightful listening to the Phil's bio about how he started the Vaf company as a 16 year old and thought that his passion was unique and then having met another 80 "passionate" speaker designers at the CES, that this was not enough and how investment in better measuring equipment, science and R&D was the ground breaker for his company. Thanks for the opportunity to meet some wonderful people, listen to the future of audio and the food and wine was much appreciated. Edited June 28, 2013 by Rhythm Willie 1
Grumpy Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 (edited) Another night that I couldn't make . Thanks for the update R Willie Edited June 28, 2013 by Grumpy
everyones_shadow Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Thanks to Phil and staff for a very informative evening. I hadn't heard the tale of Vaf's early days before and Phil usually mentions passion and enthusiasm as positives but I think tonight the're were more businesspeople and fewer audiophiles than at previous events. How did the Devialet sound? Tonally very pure and accurate. The most natural reproduction of acoustic guitar I have heard. Detail without any harshness or lacked integration. The non-musical details like key clatter on a sax were just part of the performance unlike with almost any other system whe're these features are either missing or stand out as annoying add-ons. Last week I was luck enough to hear Darth Laker's painstakingly selected and set up system playing carefully chosen recordings of the highest quality. A marvellous experience giving great enjoyment and new insight into the music. The Devialet/i93 system equalled darthlaker's despite being plunked in the worst position in Vaf's showroom - against the window next to the front door. So, the D-premier looks great, is easy to set up and use, will play any music in (almost?) any format and costs less than the large stack of dac and amps that you would normally use to play your records, discs and files. It really is worth seeing and hearing what this thing can do. Best amplifier in the world? Most useful, certainly. Easiest to get truly excellent sound from all your music. More after I've listened to my own choices of music tomorrow. ES 1
Ruffy Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Did anyone hear the DC-X35s' and if so what was there opinion? I bought the floorstanders about three months before the s came out but probably would have gone with the bookshelves as they wouldn't have dominated my little unit so much. I'd like to know if they sound very different just out of interest (apart from the obvious having less bass). Cheers, Andrew
everyones_shadow Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Hi Ruffy From my listening the s sounds very similar to the floorstanding 35. I would have expected a greater difference with being sealed but you'll have to pick your music carefully to hear any difference. I think a pair of 35s on stands is more visually dominant than the floorstanders as they are much larger than we are used to seeing 'floating in the air' on a central pillar stand. Bookshelf speakers haven't been this large for many years. They look fine on actual shelves though. ES
everyones_shadow Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Visited Vaf yesterday. Using Arcam CD37 as transport. Optical connection to the D-Premier. It just sounds wonderful. I urge you to go and listen. Even if it was just a power amp the price (for the three new models as well) would be a bargain for this level of sound quality but look at what it replaces! ES
