Hi,

I've bought a brand-new AVR-1911 but I'm finding the manual a little hard to understand.

What I'd like to do is have four speakers at the front of the room in a simple stereo arrangement.

The medium-size stand mount speakers at the far left and far right would provide just about all the sound and frequency range. The inner two speakers  (both large tower speakers) at the front would be used solely for bass at 80HZ and below. All speakers are passive and have no built-in amps like some sub-woofers.

How would I set up the Denon so that it sends only 80Hz and below music to the inner two tower speakers and all the rest of the music above 80Hz to the outer two stand mount speakers?

Thanks for any input you may have.

I am not familiar with the Denon 1911, so I can not directly answer your question.  However, you are not alone with having difficulty with understanding Denon user manuals, they are renowned for being hard to follow.  Google batpigs denon guide.  These guides are much easier to follow.  If the 1911 supports front wides or front highs, that may be a way of doing what you want.

Hi Alfonso,

I've got a 2311. There is an option in the Manual setup -> speaker setup -> amp assign ->  to setup the room in your desired config.  If you use Audyssey for room correction the AVR will largely determine which speakers play what frequencies. Otherwise you can set the crossover frequency yourself through Manual setup -> speaker setup -> crossover frequency.

Here is a a better guide than the denon manual http://batpigworld.com/setup.html#step1

I am not sure if what you want can be done without adding another pair of amps.

The 1911 can do bass management but it sends the LFE to the subwoofers which it assumes has its own amp.

So LFE pre out -> Y RCA cable splitter -> stereo power amp -> the floor standers and let Audyssey do the calibration.

That said I dont know why you'd not just use one pair of speakers for everything (low and high)

Thank everyone.

I prefer not to use Audyssey because it (to my ears) ruins the sound.

I'm not going to use one pair of speakers mainly because the large ones are great at bass but a bit harsh in the high frequencies. The standmounts are superb but would be even better with some really deep bass. So I'm aiming for the best of both worlds with my idea of both speakers.

If you don't run Audyssey, it's going to be a challenge working the crossover between the two speakers.

FWIW I suspect if the bigger speaker sounds harsh, it could be symptomatic of a bigger problem: system matching and perhaps too anaemic a power amp that causes clipping.

Unless (very unlikely) any of the internal amps in the AVR can be assigned as "subwoofer" channels, then you won't be able to do what you want .... and DH's suggestion is your only option.

The above statements are correct. My suggestion will only get you half way there
