unclemack Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Well, the Luxman is, for now, dormant and not running. So, I have moved on and, thanks to the Geoff and James at Tivoli HiFi, I am the proud owner of an Acoustic Signature, Challenger turntable. I had no intention of buying this but Geoff made me an offer I couldn't refuse! The vintage thing has broken my heart so it's nice to have some solid, modern, German engineering to rely on... It's been far too long relying on CDs as my only source. I'm in heaven!! Thanks to all of SNA for the support during my frustrating time with the Luxman and of course Stuart and Harry for dedicating so many hours trying to get the bastard fixed... Cheers M 6
jt301 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Nice UM. Time to sit back and listen to some tunes. Enjoy!
Darren69 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Congrats Unca, really nice stuff, am dribbling a little bit.
Guest Muon Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Looks super, M Ooo...what's that coloured vinyl LP? Looks groovy!
illusion Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 A very sweet looking TT Uncle, what cart & phono is it hooked upto?
unclemack Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Thanks guys, It's a relief to be able to spin vinyl again. The Challenger sounds wonderful. Datafone: The LP is Mono, Holy Ground Live in NYC. Saw them Sat night in Tassie and they were magnificent. Illusion: Its an AT33PTG with Garrot cantilever and stylus and the Phono stage is a Project Tube Box SE II. Cheers M
Grumpy Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Looks great and it probably sounds as good as it looks, but I bet it was SO much fun putting it together (with shaking hands?) for the first time.
captain.j Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Well done Unc'. It never ceases to amaze me how you get such wonderful sound out a a 65 year old technology and off a flat piece of plastic with wobbly groves in it. To me it is far more amazing than 001010100111010101010010100 being processed by a silicone chip into sound. Really interesting to see the two very distinct schools of thought with new turntables. It seems to be either something massive and weighty or skeletal, light and stiff. I was reading Rega's philosophy on the subject the other day which was fascinating. Anyway, enjoy, like I am right now :-)
Rob181 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 UM...looking good with that vinyl...you still have the best avatar on SNA...all the pretenders have followed you & in my opinion only SM has come close...Rob 1
kczar01 Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Stands up.....I would also like to second that motion 1
Briz Vegas Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) Yeah but that's clearly not Uncle Mac. It's false and misleading. Where as I am clearly a curious Siamese kitten with I device skills and big ears. Uncle Mac didn't even take that picture. It's out of Wenchs and Woofers bumper Christmas edition 2009. The one with the special sealed section expose on titillating tasty tweeters to transform your Tchaikovsky. Edited June 30, 2013 by Briz Vegas
