Hi,

I guess the first thing I should let you know is this is all new to me and I hope this is the correct forum to be posting in.

I have spent some time trying to do my own research, but as you can imagine, it is out of control with options and bias.

I'm looking to set up my music and TV separately as I'm not too fussy about the home theater side of things but keen to listen to my music with some degree of quality (around $2500 to spend). Steering away from AVR and most likely going to get a SpeakerCraft CS3 for the TV (extra $1000).

To start with I need to keep it simple as my better half has troubles beyond two buttons. This is why I have ordered an Olive One player and expect it soon.  All music will be stored on the built in hard drive and its touch operated, eliminating computers and wi-fi and multiple remotes, switches etc....

Probably not the best place to start with a system build, but it will reduce my headaches.

At this stage I thinking of connecting the Olive One player ($500)

http://www.myoliveone.com/Ones/tech_specs

to a Wyred 4 Sound mINT amp ($1500)

http://www.wyred4sound.com/141528/html/page.html

and onto SVS STS-02 speakers ($700)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90859553/SVS/STS-02_Specs_Binder2.pdf

This will be set up in a room around 5m x 6m with 3m ceilings, playing rock and alternative mainly.

So.....any thoughts or ideas? Recommendations?

Thanks in advance,  Bez.

*** I should have mentioned I have a Wharfedale PowerCube 12+ sub that will connect with the amp ***

Doesn't the Olive One have a 35watt built in amp?

Then you can spend it all on efficient speakers :)

Thanks.

Not knowing much at all, I agree that I need to spend more on the speakers and could stretch it to around $1000 for them and S/H is an option.

How about Boston Acoustics A360's for $740 or Krix Phoenix for $1100?

The Olive One has a 32w build in amp, but (not knowing much) figured this would only be good for a small room at low volume.

The boss likes to play it full tilt with no hesitation for the damge, so it needs to be capable - hence the extra amp.

From the online research I guessed the mINT was a good size for price and would match up with the Olive One, and let me plug the sub in too.

With so many options and a budget, its full on trying to figure out what will match up on a Tech level, what will be loud enough, sound good enough and the list goes on.

As per Grainy - if you have aleady purchased the olive, i still think it will be better money spent on the speakers for now- sure you can upgrade to a amp latter on if you think you need it.  Better speakers, better speakers, better speakers- :P

as suggested- the 32 watts will be enough to drive them loud.

speakers plus olive - all you need - although i have not heard the olive!

Take your olive and demo these and ask about a price, i run a set of 15w per side - can blast TOOL to a level that wil hurt your ears and will fill that room size.  Also there fast and do mid range vocals & aucostics to a tea.  All full range driver lack a certain amount of bass as per there design but i have not had any trouble with that.

Now you have me thinking Damo, these look pretty good.

But, have I wasted hours of research all because on day one I read that you need your amp to have 50% more power than the speakers?

ie: Olive One 32w amp leads to roughly a 20w speaker.

If I have been lead astray, this would open my speaker budget up to $2500  :thumb:

No but it will depend on your speakers - Eg as per JD Maggies (very nice) require a good, solid fairly powerful amp to be at their best - a full range driver like an omega, hoyt bedford or zu wont.

I suggest that you need to go out and audition a few more speakers to get a feel for what you prefer.  Olive + amp + speakers is fine, just realise it will redue your speaker budget.  olive + speakers is another way to go if you get the right speaker you can always upgrad the amp.

Lots of people advise and i agree that more $$ on speakers is a good way to go.  That does not mean you cant get great set up going your original idea re the W4S.

Just options for you to think about- in the end you need to decide for your ears,

audition a few more speakers - dont rush in.

Thanks Damo,

I wont be rushing in now as Olive have announced a few more tweeks and delayed shipment until September.

Plenty of time to consider my options - already starting to lean towards seconhand Zu Omen bookshelf hooked up directly to the Olive One.

G'day, great concept already.

Depending on your room, musical taste and how loud you like it 32w could be enough with the right speakers. I agree with others in that you should spend more on your speakers and consider something used in the mix. Perhaps a Rega Brio amp might clear up some more funds for speakers and be a reliable start?

Zu into an Olive One would be interesting but it may be a rather divisive sound.
