kczar01 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Guys the turntable I got does not have one and I would like to run / try one. Any recommendations, Project has one to suit however it is 700g and $80-90. Too much on both accounts and would put alot of extra strain on the motor. I would ideal like one around 300-400 grams and cost to a minimum. Second hand etc ok Regards and looking forward to your thoughts Kyle
Krispy Audio Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 If you want to keep weight down but not lose effectiveness, keep your eyes open for a used (over budget for new) Sota i-clamp or Reflex clamp. They fit on a standard (non-threaded) spindle and rather than using weight, you push down then clamp it to the spindle. Very effective on tables that don't like the added mass of heavy weights. 1
Upfront Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Michell also make a clamp http://bit.ly/1a6KCHb About $70 new. Nagaoka http://bit.ly/13ZPlpw Carbon steel. Not sure how this would go. http://bit.ly/1a6LknL There is a few around.
Guest Muon Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Nagaokahttp://bit.ly/13ZPlpw That one looks interesting with the stylus cleaning aspect, i wonder how well it works for this...
Upfront Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I've seen a few sell in Australia. Someone on SNA must be able to tell us.
Guest Muon Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Would think so.. I have been holding off on a clamp, but with the added use I might go for this
kczar01 Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 Thanks for the suggestions folks, keep em coming

cheekyboy Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Wow that's nice, wonder how it would work on a Rega Hi Keith, I wouldn't use a weight clamp like that on your Rega. This is the best clamp for your deck and the standard model should be fine for yours since you have Smillie's sub platter with the longer spindle. Cheers, Keith
houdinifangs Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I like a mildly weighted clamp for my Rega, mainly because it's easier to use and change records on the fly. With the 'pressure' style clamps I found stopping and starting the platter between sides inconvenient.
