shadowXgunner Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Hi everyone! This might be a strange request, but does anyone know any stores that carry a Logitech Squeezebox Touch for customers to have a listen to? Or would anybody be able to loan me one for a weekend for me to throw in my system for him to hear / see how it works OR could we even just pop around and have a bit of a listening session? Might be a strange request... hopefully someone can help! My dad is coming over to Melbourne in a couple of weeks and his asked if I can take him around to a few retailers so he can have a listen to a few different set-ups before he goes out and purchases something himself. He has recently discovered Spotify and I figured the Squeezebox would be a great option for him to have a look at, since afaik it has the spotify app. Might have a few more questions if anyone is able to help out! (no more strange requests, just questions.)Thanks all! Dave.
Abe Khamis Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Recently picked up a Squeezebox Touch when Logitech where letting them go for $199 The thing is just brilliant and I cannot recommend it enough. Easy to set up, easy to use, and the sound is good be it from analogue out or via digital. What is it that your dad is concerned about specifically? Would offer an audition but I am in Sydney.
shadowXgunner Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 At the moment he is looking for something that will do the following:Play music over the network from his PCWork with spotifyWork with ipods / mp3 players / iphones / etcI think a big factor for him will be the ease of use & set and forget factor. we've discussed everything from having an ipod dock to pc audio. For him It's going to be more of a 'try before you buy', as unlike me he isn't interested in swapping things out, guess he wants to be happy with what ever he picks up first.
Gruffnutz Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 What do you mean by, "Work with ipods / mp3 players / iphones / etc"? That's pretty broad. Do you want to be able to stream from these devices directly? Or download to them (which would have nothing to do with a new media player)?
LogicprObe Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 It's a great thing. If you were in Sydney I'd lend you my spare.

Apologise for not being clear, just to be able to stream from them, if he has guests, they can connect to the network and stream something or just plug it into something. This isn't exactly a key requirement of the device itself, but it is a feature he wants, as he will have it running while entertaining.
bwhitesox Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) For your father I would recommend a sonos system, plenty of shops have these on demonstration. Edited June 11, 2013 by bwhitesox 2
shadowXgunner Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 For your father I would recommend a sonos system, plenty of shops have these on demonstration. This is one of the options we plan to have a look at whole his down, we have a few different systems we want to listen too, different combinations of things.
Juicester Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 send me a PM mate. I can possibly help out. Chris
tbag Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I wouldn't recommend the Squeezebox for spotify. Even if that guys app it is pretty crappy and slow. If u delete songs from a playlist it doesn't update itself on the squeeze. For LAN listening it is awesome but I'm actually moving away from my squeezebox just because of the speed and other errors I get when using spotify on my squeezebox. The olive is looking good, and Sonos is a good solution if u can live under the maximum song count. hope that helps. I haven't found anything that is really good at playing spotify, other than a comp of course.

The only thing that annoys me, is that occasionally (rarely) the track is not 'permitted to be played in your region'. Do you use wireless? I have a ethernet connection to the SBT and it's lightening quick.
kesa32 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Spotify on the Touch doesn't have the "radio" option either ( no fault of the Touch, it's a spotify software issue ) I'm going to try out Mog soon

Guest yamaha_man Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I go to Internet radio and they are all there. Search to your hearts content.
kesa32 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Ok , is this the spotify radio option or just the general Internet radio your talking about ?
shadowXgunner Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 send me a PM mate. I can possibly help out. Chris Thanks for letting us come over and listen to your system on friday Chris, it gave both dad and I a chance to see what the SBT can do and how well it does it. I haven't found anything that is really good at playing spotify, other than a comp of course. As far as I could tell when using it over at Juicester it did everything we wanted from it pretty well - for what dad needed, it was fairly basic and he could control it via his tablet / phone which was pretty handy. He won't actually be having anything stored on his PC / LAN, it will all be spotify streamed and from ipod / iphones / mp3 players. Obviously still looking into different options, but he seems pretty happy with the SBT

Could be a lot cheaper to just buy a Purei20 rather than a SBT and use the spotify app on the iDevice - if you don't need the streaming from storage function....
