I have a poor connection on one of my tonearm wires at the cartridge end (I believe at the crimp). To remedy this I want to cut the wire at the crimp, test the continuity to confirm the wire is not broken internally (unlikely) and if OK then re-crimp the wire for connection to the cartridge.

Question is where can I buy the crimps and crimp tool suitable for tonearm wires?

They are so fine that you can crimp them with many different things. Crimpers from Jaycar, Bunnings, or needlenose pliers from any hardward store will suffice.

Why not test the wire without cutting? Can you get the probe to tuck in just before the wire enters the crimp? Or if it's a sharp probe, in the wire itself a cm or so down?

I wouldn't say soldering is quicker or better FR, but it's certainly an option.

i'm with you on this one. solder the tonearm wires to the cartridge clips is a total different than solder the speakers wires .it can be excellent or it can be very bad and bad solder join degrade the signals.

on this delicate stuff make sure you have good solder join or leave it for the pro .

What I'd recommend is that if you're going to solder here, crimp first then solder. This way you ensure you're getting complete wire-to-metal contact which you otherwise can't guarantee.

Good suggestion CP, I will Poke the prod into the wire before the clip.

Perhaps i wasnt clear in OP, looking for suitable replacement head shell cartridge end clips.. There are a few on eBay mostly in the uk. I would like to pick up something local so I can fix before the weekend.

Thanks

I don't think I could bring myself to taking a hot iron to a cartridge.

Meh...that's me anyway :)
