ArthurDent Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Anynone know what's happend to them? Or alternatively a suggestion for another reasonably priced supplier of drivers.
surprisetech Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Sorry Ken, haven't heard of hasaudio. Not sure what sort of drivers you're interested in, but I've bought some drivers from these guys a couple of times. no problems. http://www.speakerbits.com/
tktran Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Folded. It never reach critical mass, so the job was only a part-time for Cameron. www.theloudspeakerkit.com for pre-built speakers and subwoofers, and subwoofer drivers www.wescomponents.com for general mid bass, midrange and tweeter hi-fi drivers
2LOUD2OLD Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 yep they folded, shame as bought a few speakers through them and received great service at good prices other local options include darcher.com.au and essentialaudio.com.au otherwise madisound.com have the best range, but the shipping can be quite expensive from the US
hochopeper Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) I heard of a few people having problems getting stuff from hasaudio before they stopped taking orders (I was one of them, though I got my stuff a few months after a lot of hassling and reminding). Most of the places I would suggest are mentioned above. Paul has listed a few drivers and waveguides on http://www.theloudspeakerkit.com/ now too, but a limited range and mostly subwoofers at the moment. (edit: oops they've already been mentioned too) Edited June 4, 2013 by hochopeper
ArthurDent Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Thanks guys and a pity about hasaudio. Good prices and great service (although not towards the end by the sounds of it) and thanks for the links, will investigate.
davewantsmoore Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 received great service Not so much here. Not just at the end either. Do you know brand drivers are you after? It's often 50/50 whether buy from overseas is better. Depends on size/number obviously.
ArthurDent Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 I'm after some new midrange drivers that will come close in smoothness to the current Vifa 10 BGS's that I'm using but with a bit more grunt... Looking at the usual suspects Audax, Morel, Seas, Scan-Speak etc.
davewantsmoore Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/10f-8424g00.pdf Can only speak for it above 1khz Are you stuck with 4". They're all very inefficient :-( .... I'm only using the above for it's polar response (in a dipole). What range will it play?
ArthurDent Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Yeah it would be nice if someone brought out a 90+db/1w/m 4" 8ohm driver. Can go slightly bigger so in the Scan-Speak range probably looking at these (at a mere $550 a pair)... http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/12mu-8731t00.pdf Prefer not to go down to 4ohm which all the Revelator series appear to be.
hochopeper Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Yeah it would be nice if someone brought out a 90+db/1w/m 4" 8ohm driver. Absolutely! I've no suggestions unfortunately, there is a HDS peerless 4inch that might be worth a look too. I've thought about using that in a centre but its sensitivity has put me off.
davewantsmoore Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 What the range Hz you will use? I've worked with the HDS a little (heaps with the next sized up Nomex version) ... it's good in low extension and okay elsewhere. The illuminator has a large off axis peak, depends how it will be used.
ArthurDent Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 What the range Hz you will use? I've worked with the HDS a little (heaps with the next sized up Nomex version) ... it's good in low extension and okay elsewhere. The illuminator has a large off axis peak, depends how it will be used. It's the large on-axis peak that's got me worried! Aiming for 800hz, perhaps even lower depending on the driver, to somewhere between 3-4khz. I'd like to go higher but I doubt I'm going to find a driver with the top end of the Vifa (or the smoothness off axis)...
davewantsmoore Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) I don't know a lot about the more expensive mids, the scanspeak and seas ones I have tried are hard to use. Have another look at my suggestion... davewantsmoore Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Very different sized baffle for measurements too (Vifa 6x8, SS 1.3x1.6)
Sub Sonic Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) G'day KenTripp, If any of the following are likely to be useful to you let me know: Vifa M10MD-39 http://www.datasheets.pl/SPEAKERS/VIFA/M10MD3908.pdf Morel MDM55 http://www.morelhifi.com/old/products/pdf/Midrange/Specs%20sheet%20MDM55.pdf Morel 113 http://www.morelhifi.com/old/products/pdf/mw113.pdf Regards, SS Edit: Or this one, Seas Excel W11 CY001 http://www.seas.no/images/stories/vintage/pdfdataheet/e001.pdf Cheers! ArthurDent Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Have another look at my suggestion... It's more or less, more more as what I'm using now as that's the driver that Scan-Speak brought out after Peerless, Scan-Speak and Vifa joined up via TST or Tympany or whoever they are now. It is in other words a copy of the mg10mg/10 bgs. 1
ArthurDent Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) G'day KenTripp, If any of the following are likely to be useful to you let me know: G'day SS and thanks for the suggestions. Vifa M10MD-39 A lower spec version of what I've got now. Morel MDM55 I once used domes. Their high fs makes them more or less unusable. Morel 113 Interesting. And why are Morel spec sheets so appallingly bad. Edit: Cracked in eventually. To used to cranking out HTML. Edited June 5, 2013 by KenTripp
Sub Sonic Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 It looks like they used a low res scanner to put them in the database BTW, edit added to my earlier post. Regards, SS

rocky500 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 (edited) This one is effecient, good price but 4ohms and 5.5" http://www.scan-speak.dk/datasheet/pdf/15m-4624g00.pdf http://techtalk.parts-express.com/showthread.php?221087-Nice-curves-Scan-Speak-15M-4624G http://www.speakerbits.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=child_special.tpl&product_id=3910&category_id=1210&option=com_virtuemart Edited June 5, 2013 by rocky500
~Spyne~ Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Just to add another in there, though it is OS again, so shipping needs to be taken into account... falconacoustics. Often have the best price for many drivers that aren't able to be sourced from Wes Components.

How do you rename a thread "The search for the perfect midrange driver"
davewantsmoore Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I've not heard it but I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed in the illuminator. Can't find good measurements of it other then FR. Difficult crossover!? Zaphs distortion measurements of the 10F are really very good. I'd be surprised if they weren't better than the vifa.
