so after listening to the MK volkswoofer i just bought and deciding it sounded absolutely woeful, i removed the woofer to see what was going on. was greeted by this... (see the attached pic)

yeahhhh, i wish i had listened to it a bit before i bought it now, but i had to pick it up during my lunchbreak and did not have time to muck about. the seller assured me it was the original woofer in there, what a great guy.

moving right along... does it seem feasible to find a replacement for something this old looking??? i think its the volkswoofer mark 1, the square one... as far as i can tell the company "MK" went out of business a few years ago. so assuming finding the original part will be impossible, can you just find a similar one with similar specs? or do i need to actually find the original part for it to sound any good?

Depending on the exact model of the M&K Volkswoofer ,it may originally have been   a dual voice coil speaker and  employed two  amplifiers(or a servo control system).A type number may help to clarify what you have and a possible candidate speaker for substitution.A picture of the box would help and internal measurements could also be of benefit.

Thanks for the help! i have attached a photo of the back of the box, i think it was dual voice coil originally, as there is two sets of cables in there, the second pair has just been taped up and shoved off to the side...

I will definitely give international dynamics a call tomorrow, would be fantastic to get hold of a brand new original part.

I did check ebay and found that speaker you mentioned, but i wonder if they are any good basically? Has anyone replaced their MK with one of these, and if so how did it sound compared to the original?

I bought the sub from gumtree unfortunately, it was foolish of me to buy it without listening first but i simply ran out of time and had to get back to work asap!
