Orpheus Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I heard a track from this album on Radio National and ordered it immediately. I hadn't heard this woman before. This album is brilliant, as Mitchell interprets ballads from Francis Child famous collection in the 19th century. Each song is like a medieval stained glass window, a fable, a morality tale, a life, a warning, a haunting and disturbing lullaby. Very beautiful, and some of them very sad. Here's a you tube version that's reasonably recorded; Here's my favourite song on this album, though you have to wade through some discussion before you get to it; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJDpSPCsMWU
soundfan Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) Nice. You need to check out Hadestown, it's a ripper of an album. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadestown Edited June 1, 2013 by soundfan
blackangus Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 +1 on hadestown, we have given that disc a flogging. the instrumentation is just awesome, great recording. it surprises me few seem to know it, particularly given the popularity of the rest of the cast I'll definitely grab a copy of child ballads
