dawatson69 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I am looking for some input of what speaker cable to purchase, and from where.I have just purchased a set of Klipsch RF-82 II speaker system, and a Denon 4520.There is a lot of different cable and prices that is advertised on the net, but how do they all differ?I have no idea what to look for when it comes to cable, and am now hoping other members with the knowledge can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance 1

Thanks in advance Hey mate welcome, Your budget would help us out, just gives us an idea from where you are coming from. (and where you are headed) Also whats its purpose ie: hifi or home theater or both Regards Kyle.
dawatson69 Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 Hi Kyle, Thanks for the reply. Will be used mainly for HT but some music also. I don't really have a budget as this is unchartered territory for me. From other advice that I have received, it isn't necessary to spend any more than about $2/m. Cheers
kczar01 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Well.....this is a can of worms.... um I personally have Chord Carnival Silverscreen does the job and well at that ( much better that a dealer handout / freebie) it is like $12 ish per meter. sky is the limit with these things, for example I have the chance to Go Chord Signature ($1800rrp per 3m pair) however, I have a golden retriever puppy that eats fuc*ing everything ATM so yeah.... if you are not phased, the general rule is 10% of the system total, don't forget the run (length you need) and needs. There are some great buys out here, just shop around first. Are you after factory terminated or DIY with banana plugs Regards Kyle
firefly0071 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 $2 a metre is a generic speaker cable with termination at each end. There won't be any internet or magazine reviews of cables at this price.
Grainy Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I bought a roll of this and prefer it to the quad core Chord Silverscreen cables I have. The blue is pretty too http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=WB1736
davewantsmoore Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Budget? Belden 5000 http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/speaker/index.htm I like their welded bananas, but it does drive the price up. Other options are Neotech UPOCC solid copper, and Cat5 ... but might require some DIY VHAudio have more options if you are into $$$ and/or DIY
L J T Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Here is what I use http://m.jaycar.com.au/m_productView.asp?ID=WB1735 You can get it in 20m rolls. 1
Juicester Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Don't spend too much Dawatson. I reckon kczar would be nuts for dropping that kind of coin on cables (Chord Signature). Go ahead and spend $2k on Cables when your speakers, amp and source all cost $20k.... Dollars will go further else where in terms of performance improvements. 1

bwhitesox Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Chord Odyssey 2 is a good speaker cable that I am always impressed with and not too expensive. 1
surprisetech Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Olex Garden Lighting cable at Bunnings. Has super low DC resistance and capacitance due to it's high current application and fat insulation while still maintaining a very low inductance.

bwhitesox Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 (edited) Have you used this? The guy has Jamo speakers he wouldn't hear a difference if the wire was as thin as a bees d!ck or $10,000 super cable Edited May 31, 2013 by bwhitesox
Juicester Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 The guy has Jamo speakers he wouldn't hear a difference if the wire was as thin as a bees d!ck or $10,000 super cable what's wrong with Jamo? they make some awesome speakers. some of which would easily outgun yours!
davewantsmoore Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Jamo speakers Speakers: DIY 3-way 118L Front Mains
surprisetech Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Have you used this? Yes, I've had it on my main speakers for a couple of years. These speakers are my 2-channel pair and also serve as the front mains and handle the LF material for HT. This cable puts the DCR and C values of a lot of high-end cables to shame. L is not quite as low as some very expensive brands, but still very respectable and a tiny fraction of the cost. Fortunately, the system and speakers are all along the same wall, so although this cable is relatively big and ugly (normally meant to be buried in your garden), installation and aesthetics were not a serious issue! 1

surprisetech Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 C irrelevant, L very important. (Not dissing your cable) Agreed. Although the figures I've seen for some high-end cables would indicate that not all manufacturers see low L as important. I measured the Olex to make sure it was comparable to respected cables before I decided to try it. 1

QED 79 strand speaker cable was identical so not a new idea for use as speaker cable.

davewantsmoore Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 not all manufacturers see low L as important I think a very big part of this is that the (influence of) electrical parameters of cables are so heavily dependant on the electrical parameters of the source/load. Generalisations are extremely tenuous.
Chill3 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 These are good and reasonable price http://www.dnm.co.uk/cables.html
