automated Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I've been searching for an affordable turntable shelf for my Rega and Mitsubishi turntables. I have a timber floor and get a fair bit of feedback from the subs and general noise from walking around the room. Are there any affordable options in Australia? I was going to get the Rega shelf but have now decided to wall mount both turntables and would like them to be on matching shelves. I'm thinking something along the lines of this: (Apollo WT-1) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290919745662?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Edited May 28, 2013 by automated
djb Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 They can be very expensive especially x 2 Don't know this one at all I solve the problem with a solid steel rack Topped with a slate tile 400 x 400mm supported on 4 squash balls sitting in lids fromv2 liter milk containers Works for me cost about 20$ per TT Have seen photos of a more complex version where the above is topped with a larger piece of slate and additioal larger elastic balls!
Telecine Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 A brilliant solution djb but it should be noted that it has rendered the pool table at the local pub all but unplayable ; )
Dubhousing Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) I recently bought a Pro-ject wallmount it 2 rack for my Thorens TD160 and it works really well, just as well as the Rega rack I use for another tt. I'm wondering whether the Pro-ject will be strong enough to hold a ply plinth I'm making for a Lenco. Time will tell... My first post Edited June 4, 2013 by Dubhousing 1

Aah, gotcha, David!! So you admit you stole my idea of a "DIY Vibraplane"! And BTW, here in Oz we call them "2 litre" milk containers (I hope you aren't an ex Engrish teacher! ). Regards, Andy
evil c Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I bought a Rega bracket from O/S a few years ago on ebait & mounted it on my back (brick) wall after hearing my footsteps reverberating through the turntable one day. One of the best purchases to improve sound I've made!
MarcusHix Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I have a pair of Target HiFi shelves gathering dust....PM me if you're interested

Effective, and looks good. Synergy Audio Visual (Rega's rep in Australia) can advise local suppliers.
Toma Audio Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Howdy Aoutomated, What kind of budget are you thinking? We sell both the Rega and the Project shelves, don't do a lot of them though. The Project ones are a little more stylish compaired to the Rega. The Apollo one you linked to is distributed by Soundring in Australia. Let me know if you need info or pricing. Cheers,
unclemack Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 hey Automated, I have a great twin shelf wall bracket for sale if you are interested. PM me for more details if you like. Cheers M 1
Candyflip Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I made my own - and I am an ABSOLUTE duffer when it comes to DIY. I went to my local hardware with the measurements of the bottom of my Rega. They had some nice sealed particle board, which they cut to size for me on the spot. $12. Inside the store, I bought two simple L-shaped brackets which were already powder coated glossy white. $16 I bought a sample pot of appropriate blue paint. $10 I got a mate with a hammer drill to do the holes for me into the brick wall. I had brushes and fixtures at home - and it took me about an hour to do the whole thing. 2
Dr Good Vibe Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 daniall, you can buy all those fittings here in Melbourne, great looking unit. What is the shelf structure ?
automated Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) Thanks for all the replies, I really wanted to keep it under $300 for both. I did actually try a diy shelf but failed miserably To keep things symmetrical I'd like to have a shelf on either side of my stand. Edited June 20, 2013 by automated
Midori Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) If you are using a RP3/6, I think this fits nicely. http://www.shelvingshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=556 Only thing is that I would personally preferred a wood shelf. So might be worthwhile getting the local wood supplier to source a light piece of wood cut to size. But then again, the gloss look shelf might match your Rega perfectly. That looks pretty much perfect, one turntable is an RP3 and other other is a Mitsubishi DP-84A. edit: Ordered two, I don't think I'm going to do any better for $120 delivered. Great to be of help. Please give feedback on the product when you got them installed! I too have been considering if it is worthwhile putting my RP6 on the wall for a while now!
automated Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 I need to tidy the cables and move the stand back a bit, but it looks good I think. It's certainly fixed the foot-fall and bass feedback issues.
Candyflip Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Really nice! Looks quite space age with the cables installed - I'd leave 'em.
automated Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) Finally got around to tidying up the cables. The cable covers will be painted to match the wall eventually. Edited July 18, 2013 by automated

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374144045.211182.jpg Good you've got it all sorted - - now you need to move onto the next problem. Dampening your listening area ( Rugs, curtains, acoustic panels, etc) It never really stops, just something else to deal with!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374144045.211182.jpg That cannot work, don't you realise the amount of detail you are missing by having the cables lay directly on the carpet! LolIt looks very neat and tidy. +1 As Coeuslee - I've convinced my wife that all these cables need to be strewn about
