i was wondering if anyone had any power cable recommendation at a reasonable price.

Since moving to the new system, i seem to have picked up a slight "Hum"

Any comments welcome, I have tried a number of things.

Thanks in advance, Kyle

You may need to do a little cable management to reduce the hum.

In my system it was caused by one stray interconnect too close to a power cable.

I recently got a pair of Wywires Juice II Silver power cords which I think are superb.

It all depends what a 'reasonable' price is to you.

You can contact Rinehardt at RKcable ( I think AudioJunkie is his forum name) and he makes a range of power cables starting as low as $75.  His website is www.rkcable.com.au .  PMG also sells some of his power cables.

I think vmhf and davewantsmoore are giving you advice that may save you some money. I love all the power conditioners and alternative cables and use them myself, but think the hum may be because of something else.

If you are happy to use US plugs I found that they shunyata venom-3 cords were great for the price.  Ask Cam @ Krispy Kables about them..

Yes, I forgot that Cameron at Krispy Kables can make all sorts of cables to suit your budget.

They certainly perform way above their price points.

Only issue is the Us plug

There are many many powercords to choose from, I use Ella Baby and Nordost. Would like to use XLO, PS Audio, Shunyata and Furutech.

For $100 check out Krispy Kables and the for sale section.

Or make your own

BUT

It is most likely not going to sort out the hum.

Mario, I was considering grabbing some Yarbo cable a while back, but the diameter was too big for the usual Martin Kaiser, Schurter or Clipsal SHD plugs and IECs that I use to make my cables. Do you have any reasonably priced options for 16mm power cable such as this (the Furutech stuff is great, but too rich for my blood).

Oyaide Tunami is a really great power cable, IMHO...

Where do you get this tsunami cable you speak of

I have 2 in my system  :thumb:

I have 1 (amp), but will get another one for the source. What do you use it for?

I have a problem with hum from my transformer which I believe is caused by DC in the mains. Tried my amp at another place with a number of circuits and was virtually non-existent on one and a little worst but nowhere near as bad on the other.

At home the hum will rise and fall and resonates with the amp cover on making it worst.

Trying an isolation transformer was recommended to confirm whether DC is in fact the problem. Trying to find a loaner myself.

A power cable with a DC blocker may be another option?

Another option is a PS Audio Humbuster, can be found on eBay from time-to-time for $100-ish

OK, time for my newbie question, if power supply upsets Hi Fi components, would one not assume the manufacturers of Hi Fi components would address this with the power cords that come with their products?

I mean lets face it, we offload significant amounts of beer vouchers for some of this kit.

Re the manufacturers. I thought so myself.

Now I am thinking:

  • It is a case of consumerism, they add the cheapest standard cable
  • Good quality products have transformers and other stuff inside which should sort this out
  • Some Audiophiles love tweaking and will buy power cords  anyway
  • If you have only one product then it may not be an issue, but when you look behind my cabinet it looks like a power plant - cords everywhere.

I have normal and special power cords in my system. I have only tested one of them once and thought it made a some difference - for the better. So far I have been happy to spend up to $200 on power cords just to make me happy and not to worry that there may be an issue, although I still have things running on the normal cords, I do plan to end up with special cords for all of them.
