Warren M. Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) We are still some months away (September 1), but I wanted to let you know early, so I could take advantage of any feedback. I'm just starting to put together the meeting structure and tie in the various discount offers for attendees from product suppliers, but I'm pretty excited by it and I think it will be a blast. Non-members can just turn up but I would recommend you contact ASoN in August to let them know, so they have an idea of numbers (I suspect that this will be a larger-than-normal meeting). Your input would be appreciated. Warren M. Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) I've just added one of my own Classic Records 200g LPs to the door prizes on offer at the September 1 ASoN meeting in Epping. A bottle of Record Revirginizer has been added to the growing prize list too! Also note, my turntable will be on a platform isolated by NeoLev magnetic levitation feet - you've got to see these at work! Cheers,Warren Edited June 19, 2013 by Warren M.

Cheers, Warren Hi warren, Your post about the ASoN says (about your NeoLev feet): Triton NeoLev magnetic levitation feet will be offered at a big discount by their Australian distributor. These feet, which use rare earth magnets to levitate your components, do an incredible job of isolating against vibrations. I'll have a set between the table and my turntable shelf, insulating the turntable from vibrations in the air and especially transmitted through the floorboards. I can understand how these feet might do a superb job of isolating the TT plinth from vibrations coming up from the floor into whatever benchtop / rackshelf the TT plinth is resting on. However, I cannot see how they would, in any way, insulate the TT from vibrations coming into it from the air. Regards, Andy

The only way I can see it working wrt horizontally transmitted vibration, is via what it is standing on. So air-transmitted vibration resonates the stand/shelf, and would be transmitted back through to the turntable. It gets stopped. I've heard it very clearly with my brother's near-field monitoring speakers in his studio - with the NeoLevs under them, they sound radically cleaner, especially when they are reproducing strong mid-bass. You can see the NeoLevs wobble in response to vertically transmitted vibrations. By the way it's amazing to watch what they do to the turntable if you walk on a loose floorboard (I saw this a couple of years ago) - the NeoLev feet shake like they are having a fit, but turntable stays rock still and there is no audible change in the music. Are you flying up to Sydney for the September meeting? You could win an LP. Cheers Warren
