Anyone up for a music gtg?

No rules about the music we will play, but roughly themed around cross-cultural, cross-genre collaborations.

I'm listening to lots of arabic inspired jazz at the moment etc - Anouar Brahem, Joseph Tawadros - but any kind of interesting meeting of different musical traditions.

The GTG will be about the music not the gear. I have a TT and cdp.

(if anyone wants to bring another dac that would be okay)

Any preferences for Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd June?

Let me know what dates work

Buddyev, I've been listening to Anouar Brahem's "The Astounding Eyes Of Rita" and must say it's exceptional. Also on rotation I have Asaf Avidan & Rabih Abou-Khalil's " Al-Jadida", both well worth a listen.

Hi illusion, i'm a big fan of these guys - astounding eyes of rita is terrific. I haven't heard al jadida, is it a recent one?

Interested in broadening my horizons if there's room and you don't mind me coming. Not sure I'd have much to offer musically tho.

Great. Is sunday 1 pm okay for you all?  Let me know if that's difficult because either day is fine by me.

As for the music, I was just trying to come up with something a bit different but bring whatever music you like.

If you like Joseph Tawadros (as I do! :party ), you might like Dhafar Youssef / Wolfgang Muthspiel.  Try "Electric Sufi". :)  I have a 2nd CD of this pair but I'm afraid I can't recall its name. :(

You're onto something here. we could recreate in musical miniature all the conflicts of the middle east - and solve them in a spirit of cooperation and fraternal love in a single afternoon. Like your style.

Alas, Sunday will be a miss for me  :(.

Rabih Abou-Khalil's " Al-Jadida", is quite an old release, but well worth a listen.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the hospitality yesterday afternoon and also for sending me a PM invitation, because I had missed this thread. A very enjoyable listen to some non mainstream music and definitely a genre worth exploring some more for me. A great spread of food, a couple of glasses of wine and some good company combined with a very good sounding system, made for a very pleasant GTG.

Cheers,

Keith

G'day Russ, Thank you for all of your hospitality and company yesterday.

I had a ball listening to some of your jazz albums and talking about gear all in the comfort of your beautiful home.

see you around the traps.

A very relaxed and enjoyable afternoon with great music and great people. The spread was impressive too, especially that fancy quiche you must have slaved over for hours. ;)

Real men do eat quiche, after all. We've come a long way, Australia.

Youse are all very welcome

Mate, thanks for an absolutely great afternoon!!!

I enjoyed hearing some of the people I knew, but mostly those I wasn't familiar with! What a great idea for a GTG, Russ, and your knowledge in the area of "World Music" is impressive! Pity I had to leave early, but a wedding anniversary in my "work environment" is not a small thing :D

Great food, too! That beautiful blue cheese disappeared very quickly ;)

Nice to see cheekyboy and djb again and to meet Glenn! Thanks again and looking forward to catching up soon.

All the best!
