bmwheath Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Quick question, is the Marantz AV7005 the same as the SR7005 (apart from the amp section)? I have a seperate power amp so i dont really need the amp section. I have found the AV7005 for about $1450 and the SR7005 for $1250 (refurbished) or about $1650 ex dispay. What are the differences of the 2 units and can they be found cheaper than the prices i have listed? And what does the SR7007 have besides 4K upscaling compared to the 7005's? Thanks in advance, Heath. Edited May 19, 2013 by bmwheath
betty boop Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 you pay more for the amps in the sr7005. the av7005 had a torroidal supply. both are based on the denon 3311 series avrs. the sr7005 is exactly the same under skin as the denon and in menus etc
bmwheath Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) Thanks once again al you are a wealth of audio knowledge lol... So you would assume the AV7005 would have a slight edge with audio quality due to the torroidal supply and a cleaner path not having amp stages in the unit? Im actually really interested in the AV7701 or the SR7007 now, they seem to be the units that i am looking for with 7.2 as i am running 2 subs, both have 4k upscale and AIrplay which is a nice little feature to have. Is the SR7007 just an update of the SR7005?? Marantz have WAY TO MANY MODEL NUMBERS THAT ARE VERY SIMILAR LOL... Edited May 20, 2013 by bmwheath

Ended up buying a full AVR rather than a processor because I thought it would be easier to sell a processor down the track if I wanted to upgrade. Which I will no doubt.

Hey Juicester, did you end up with one of the Marantz receivers? if so which one and why? How do you find it as a processor? cheers, Heath
Juicester Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 nah I was looking for bang for buck (and also to buy new - because pros/avrs can die commonly) - so I steered away from the marantz because the cheapest I could find was $1800 at the time, and I picked up an Onkyo TXNR818 - it had the latest audyssey (XT32) which is apparently a fair stretch ahead of the previous version (which I think is what's in the AV7005). You can buy the onkyo's now for around $1500 which is pretty damn good.
