Dolphy Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Has anyone built their own or attend this? http://www.tubesoundaudio.com.au/ I'm very keen to give it a go.....as it would be very satisfying. PS: I'm not affiliated with the site, I stumbled across it, Edited May 19, 2013 by dolphy
Sierra Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I built myself a tube power amp last year (http://www.tubes4hifi.com/bob.htm#ST120) was great fun.
Dolphy Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) I built myself a tube power amp last year (http://www.tubes4hifi.com/bob.htm#ST120) was great fun. This is what got me looking into learning how to build them. I've never tried soldering or playing with any electronics. Ultimately I would like to put together a ST120. Are you an experienced technician or did you learn as you went along? Edited May 19, 2013 by dolphy
LogicprObe Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 That Amp Camp sounds like a good thing for beginners. Valve amps are relatively simple beasts. Give it a go!

Ultimately I would like to put together a ST120. Are you an experienced technician or did you learn as you went along? No ... I'm not a techy ... I'm just a hobbyist with a basic understanding of electronics ... as in I know the difference between transistors, resistors, capacitors etc and I'm reasonably handy with a soldering iron. I've built a couple of other transistor amp kits over the years but this was my first valve amp kit. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about taking on a valve amp because of the very high voltages involved ... if I made a wiring mistake it could be very spectacular indeed. So I just had to make sure I was very carefull as I put it together. 2
