Dave Tomic Henry Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I recently built a new rig and pretty much from the get go, I've had dramas with crackles/pops etc from very high DPC latency issues. I've wasted hours and hours on this, with no real significant result. Anyone else had to chase down these gremlins before?
Dave Tomic Henry Posted May 19, 2013 Author Posted May 19, 2013 Asrock 970 pro 3 r2 Gt210 Amd 250 (the only hang over from previous rig) Corsair matched for ram Sandisk ssd boot, 3 other drives Dlink dwa125 for wifi Audio-gd nfb5.2, just grabbed a audio-gd DI also tried a nu force USB DAC I'm convinced its hardware, ive tried drivers to death. OEM, manufacturer, windows. Done bios, disabled all power management. WiFi is suspect, later testing points toward the gt210 as well
LogicprObe Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I was having all sorts of trouble with my Z68 chipset board (early adopter) so I kept my CPU and went to Z77. That made all the difference. (I know you're using an AMD) Anyway, if I installed all the basic drivers that came with it, it wasn't too bad but as soon as Windows Update did it's thing, all hell would break loose! Then I had to RMA the SSD!...........and that was causing the most problems! Proved it by pulling the SSD..........and disconnecting all the other drives. Found and old 80GB Seagate drive laying around and installed the O/s on that with the basic mobo drivers etc and it ran like a dream! Eventually got a replacement but waited until I got the Asrock z77 board and used it again as boot. No problems since. (my z68 was a Gigabyte)
rocky500 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) For me it was the onboard Nic that caused spikes in the Latency. My MB is a Asus P8Z77-M Pro Brought a Intel PCI CT Network card that fixed it. Try temporarily disabling the onboard Nic and run some tests to see how it goes. The one I brought I think is like this one http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=14702&cPath=328#getprice Edited May 19, 2013 by rocky500 1
gavtron Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I had issues with an app that was bundled with my Gigabyte Motherboard that overclocked the cpu. Un installed it and was all fine. Nvidia drivers have also been a common cause of complaint for DPC issues.
Dave Tomic Henry Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Went out and bought a ATI Vid card and a PCI-E Wifi Nic today. See if this resolves suspected issues. I read quite a bit as well re the Nvidia drivers - It also popped up in my logging as an issue.
Guest myrantz Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 This is a pretty good comprehensive write-up on how to identify drivers that cause DPC latency issues: linky With DPC latency woes - it's not really the hardware that's causing issues.. It's the driver.. Find the offending driver, update it to something else and hope the problem goes away. If all else fails, install Linux 1
Dave Tomic Henry Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Definite performance increase (high latency DPC frequency has dropped) with change of hardware. But I still have problems with USBPORT.SYS and no matter which driver I try, I'm not getting anywhere.
Dave Tomic Henry Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 This might be speaking too soon. But I'm going to run under a ladder, throw a black cat at some glass and see if its still working as it should......... Working as expected.... All of a sudden.
Twistie Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I had problems with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro website blocking giving latency problems. Disabled the website blocking feature and my latency pops and crackles om Win 8 were fixed.

Check your m/b manual and see which USB port goes where.. And use another group if possible (e.g. north bridge vs south bridge for old intel systems and what not).. Some USB ports are better than others... With USB do you have a USB driver installed for the device? It could be the device USB driver causing the issue (by driver in your post you mean this?). What other USB devices do you have? Keyboard, mouse, wifi and? Unplug them, or move them to another USB group/hub (wifi and audio don't use the same USB hub).. Does that improve things? Is the wifi channel you used being used by other people in your neighbourhood? If so, switch to the least used channel and see if that's any better. If all else fails - try a wired connection, do you still get pops and crackles? If yes, back to square one ...
Twistie Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 That's interesting. I think I stumbled across the idea when researching Windows 8 audio quality issues, which led me to DPC latency as a possible culprit. When I ran DPC Latency Checker sure enough I was getting hit with massive latency issues. Not that I really understood what it meant but it was something to work from. Took me ages of searching after updating my network drivers to find Malwarebytes as a possible problem. When I ran dpclat.exe and disabled the website ip blocking sure enough latency dropped to 1000 when it was up around 10000u When I first noticed the glitches in audio I was annoyed that maybe some of my files were corrupt but when I scrolled back to replay the glitch wasn't there. Thinking back I do seem to remember thinking that the problem was somehow related to Firefox and at first I thought flash player was the problem. Anyway switching off the IP blocking seems to have worked for me and I wouldn't be surprised if some Antivirus programs might cause similar issues. Worth a shot for the OP to look at their AV software as a possible culprit.
