gz76 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 What's the one song you can always count on to take you to your happy place? (Quite often the song may also be associated with a happy memory. If so, feel free to share your story!)
Shane Frencham Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Hungry Eyes by Eric Carman. Reminds me of my first ever date, seeing Dirty Dancing at the Academy Cinema in Adelaide!
emesbee Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks. Don't know why, not associated with any particular memories. I just find it very satisfying to listen to. 3
Tony M Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) "Temma Harbour" by Mary Hopkins evokes happy feelings for me. Probably better examples, but that's the first I thought of. Strange really, cos I don't particularly relate to catching fish on a tropical island. "I've got five dollars and it's Saturday night" is a cute concept, too, but inflation's sort of messed that up a bit. "Tonight's the night" has to be a happy song also. Edited May 18, 2013 by Tony M
Grumpy Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 May I Take A Giant Step (into your heart), 1910 FruitGum Co. and a few others of their hits are happy songs, Simon Says ; 123 Red Light etc. Happy Together - Turtles Reet Petite, Jackie Wilson or Dinah Lee 2
mrbuzzardstubble Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Judy In Disguise - John Fred and His Playboy Band. Always gives me a lift. 2
emesbee Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Baba O'Riley by The Who. Something I play whenever I lament the rather sorry state of popular music these days (my opinion). The Who's finest moment, I reckon. Crank up the volume and give it a blast!
Al Leece Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 "Days" and "Waterloo Sunset" always have that effect on me. Not sure why, just among the earliest songs that I heard that stuck with me.

mickj1 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) and of course there's Randy Newman's song which is called 'Happy' -"I woke up this morning with a smile on my face I had a great big hard-on for the whole human race I love everybody and I want you to know Got the world by the balls and I won't let it go And i don't give a damn if they take me away Cause I'm so f**ckin' happy, (he's so f**ckin' happy) I'm so goddam happy today" Cheers mick Edited May 18, 2013 by mickj1 1

Monty Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Lee Dorsey and Betty Harris - 'Love Lots of Lovin'' I remember dancing round the living room to this song on a winter night before an open fire with a new girlfriend who more than ten years later is the mother of my children. Freedom Now - 'Sissy Walk' No particular association, this groove just makes me want to strut and smile.

LogicprObe Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 My number 1 feel good song. Stupid links aren't working again!
shaky Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I thought there was something wrong with my laptop!!! My vote is for Hey Ya- Outkast. You cannot possibly sit completely still during this song. If you can you are either asleep or dead.
ZEN MISTER Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) " I Can See Clearly Now " by Johnny Nash always does it for me. Something about the key change under the lines, '... look straight ahead, nothing but blue skies' always evokes a sensory response of the clouds parting, and brilliant Brett Whitley style blue heavens appearing. Sheer brilliance. The one that I always bellow along to is the Taj Mahal rendition of the old work song " Linin' Track". More than one set of neighbors have been alarmed and disturbed by the sonic wonder that channels thru me. ZM. Edited May 19, 2013 by Zen Mister 2
LogicprObe Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Yeah.....I Can See Clearly Now is a beauty................and in the same vein is the original Montego Bay by Bobby Bloom. 1
