Hugely popular French electronic music duo doing world album launch from a small tiny country town agricultural show in NSW.    Brilliant,  but just a little strange.

They're not actually playing unfortunately,  just streaming the album from there apparently.     4000 tickets, all sold out,  just to listen to a CD play for the first time!.

judging by the youtube channel the town seems to be getting into the swing of it

I'm surprised that they released the album for sale prior to the Wee Waa event, as it somewhat undermines it.

It's certainly a bit different from their earlier stuff. I wouldn't pay to see them play it live (unlike their earlier stuff) but I'm starting to enjoy the album for what it is. Quite a bit of disco influenced stuff, a tribute to Giorgio Moroder, and guest vocalists throughout.

And has been well played on triple j this week as their feature album of the week. A strange thing again for the radio station to do seeing as though it was heavily promoting the Wee Waw event weeks ago when the proposed launch was announced. A lot of disappointed listeners no doubt due to the way this has eventuated I'd say.

There is something else going on me thinks! Stay tuned.... Perth sux for this sort of thing. I think the people of that little town are in for a treat! Lucky buggers!

Many people I know are disappointed.... but I think they were expecting the wrong thing.    They went exactly where I thought they would.   Cinematic, movie-like, tribute to 70/80s.

Some of it is a little avante-garde .... but there are some Awesome moments!

I really enjoy this new Daft Punk album. Weekend of Daft Punk at my place. Their two previous albums and Tron Legacy.

Yeah, after the first listen I was somewhat disappointed as I had built up an expectation that it would be club-oriented and 'danceable' (eg Alive 2007) but the more I listen and reflect upon it, the more it grows on me.

Has there actually been a 24bit digital release?

Otherwise, this is either upsampled or captured from LP

Qobuz has a 24/88.2 version available. However, we are unable to buy it due to us not being in France (I tried). Its a shame as I am really enjoying this album a lot, and would love a hi-res version.

HDtracks have just added the 24/88.2 to their catalogue so I am downloading it at this very moment along with the new Nationals album in the same format.

Woo hoo!

Anthony

EDIT: the new album from The National is 24/96.

I've listened to a vinyl rip to whet my appetite whilst I wait for vinyl to land on the ground here, I thought the dynamics seemed a bit better but wasn't too sure.

Anyone know if the HR version is a different master to the CD one? Or just the CD in better quality.

If this DR Database is any indication, it seems the vinyl has the best dynamic range. The HR and CD versions seem to have the same DR.

I'll probably end up getting the vinyl as well down the track (spent too much on music this month already).

Ok.

Cannot hear a difference between the CD and the 24/88 .... but can see the difference in Audacity clearly.

Also downloaded a vinyl capture. It did sound different. I felt it had more "groove" to it (pardon the pun) ... and was more engaging. It's possible I was hearing things.
