darkFlames Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 This the question i asked a friend who is a muso, knows his sound equip: will these http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/balga/other-books-music-games/speakers-pair-/1019003061 combined with this http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/jane-brook/audio/akai-ac-520-amp-no-speakers/1019506574 be bad ass or just a waste of time? so, he has told me i'll probably end up killing the stereo this is a work project, i have a very big shed with steel slitting process lines so i need some serious sound for cheap, no really looking for good quality just loud sound, what would you guys recomend? i'd say the bay i need to fill with sound is 500mx150m
beau Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 You will get noise, loud distorted noise. I wouldnt bother.
surprisetech Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Your friend is right - not a good match. The speakers might be OK, but you should get a demo first. Look for an old Integrated Amp or Receiver with a decent power output.
darkFlames Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 intergrated amp? im handy with a soldering iron and a screwing driver but clueless with what i actually need
henry218 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 500m x 150m space, what kind of spl u need? background music or actually listening to songs?
henry218 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 you will need an array of speakers to cover all areas, unless you have a particular area that you want to serve it for. in general big speakers like the one u posted will be ideal (think of 12" woofers and big horn tweeters), but the source and power will need to follow suit, such as pro amps with 500-1000w capabilities. henry
almikel Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Agree with the others, those speakers should be fine, but that amp - forget it. As Henry says, you need a pro amp for that area - but do you really need to hear it everywhere? For that space the poor buggers close to the speakers would require hearing protection and the guys 500m away would be saying "turn it up" Multiple speakers/amps introduces a world of pain with delays etc. Get the speakers or similar pro style with a pro-amp at least 250W a channel and see how you go - keep the volume low enough so the guys close don't complain, and the guys further away just need to organise jobs closer to the music. hochopeper Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) 500m x 150m?!? Are you really sure? That is 5 football fields, inside one shed? I've seen some big sheds, but that takes the cake. Seriously I've seen coal mines that don't have sheds that big ... Edited May 16, 2013 by hochopeper
almikel Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Hochopeper, your local Bunnings must be the corner store variety...I think the Cannon Hill (Brisbane) Bunnings would be nearly that big (not 150m deep but 500m long) and over in the west iron ore makes a truckload more money than coal over here, so the sheds are commensurately larger all jokes aside that's a hell of a shed 1
