Guest Muon Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) Edit: Silly me, thanks to guru for pointing out that these are kits out of Canada, and not the well known hi end UK products. I haven't seen any triple C core OPT's before. Or am I just out of the loop? They look very interesting http://www.audionotekits.com/l3el84pp.html Edited May 13, 2013 by datafone
Guest guru Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 audio note kits are a different company based in Canada and the output transformers are their own, not audio note uk. they use only double c-core or i-e transformers in copper or silver windings and in 6 different lamination materials with copper shrouds and frames. they wind all their transformers inhouse.
Guest Muon Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) Ah, thanks mate I didn't know there were two different entities, with the kits being one and not the other. Nice looking OPT's in the UK products of course http://www.audionote.co.uk/products/amps_power/p2_se_01.shtml# with bigger chunky power transformers, very nice indeed. I just hadn't seen triple core transformers in those kits, and it perked my curiosity Edit: Amended the OP for clarification. Edited May 13, 2013 by datafone
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted May 13, 2013 Volunteer Posted May 13, 2013 So how many different Audio Note companies are there?
Guest guru Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 So how many different Audio Note companies are there? numerous but the audio note kits is a licensed outfit in Canada which audio note uk supplies some componentry for their range of products. it originally started in house as a means of creating a " broadchurch" base for the brand and was based on factory designs. it has since evolved into its own entity with minimal impact from the uk base. the designs have departed from the factory product by a considerable margin although andy grove still has a helping hand when required. it allows the factory to rationalise it stock as components which fall outside its factory specifications are supplied as kit material, ie. speaker driver pairs which fall outside the 0.4 db variation from the reference specs are used in the kit range of speakers, it allows a cost effective reuse of product that has slight variances to factory products. everyone benefits as there is no wastage by having this kind of usage. hope this helps explain a little.
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted May 13, 2013 Volunteer Posted May 13, 2013 Thanks guru. Maybe going OT a bit but how does Audio Note Japan fit in?
Guest guru Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 audio note japan was the original and entered into a distribution arrangement with qvortrup for distribution outside of japan. this worked well for quite a few years and peter developed the audio note uk range with kondo's approval. the split was a 3 part affair and played out over time, there was a reseller in asia who defaulted on stock payment which left them out of pocket for close on a million, kondo's desire to return to push-pull design and the final split came over a courtcase that involved trademark infringement from an outside party and kondo's demand for the rights to the audio note brand name back without recompense after peter had just spent a considerable sum of money in the European courts winning the exclusive trademark rights against this 3rd party. peter refused kondo's request and the rest is history as audio note japan is now known worldwide as kondo under the guidance of his daughter and masaki who was his head technican. cheers.
