WhoRu? Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) Maybe you should put a Chinook or Steehead into the mix too.... Edited March 3, 2014 by tanehy
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Maybe you should put a Chinook or Steehead into the mix too.... There's already a Nagra VPS filling that position I'm sorry.
Sierra Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Nice one Sir Beardo Didn't think you were into valve amps. Is the Manley a keeper?
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Nice one Sir Beardo Didn't think you were into valve amps. Is the Manley a keeper? I'm not and yes it is. Currently playing Roger Waters Amused To Death and to be honest I've never heard it as it's playing now except for at Sydney Hifi when I demo'd the speakers.

How would you describe the difference compared to the Krells?
Sierra Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I'm guessing thats a good thing the way Roger Waters is sounding now What made you decide to dip your toe into valve waters and why Manley over other Brands? I believe Earle is a fan of the Manley Massive Passive.
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Well I'm yet to use the KAS on the Ref 1's but compared to the FPB-600 and KRC it's full surround sound out of twin channel when playing certain tracks from that album. The overall sound difference I would say it certainly lack bottom end for a start.

Sierra Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 " ... it's full surround sound out of twin channel when playing certain tracks from that album. " ... it certainly lack bottom end for a start. Are we sure all input connections and speaker connections are correct polarity? Full surround sound and obvious lack of bass can be symptoms of a system that is out of electrical phase ... just something to be mindfull of

For sure the Manley would not have the bass power of the Krell ... just checkin' thats all Just recently had someone describe a similar siuation of "surround sound and lacking bass" and they had accidentally reversed the speaker polarity when connecting up.
chefscuba70 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Very nice Sir, those Ref 1's certainly have a demanding presence in the room and even when looking around at the other gear, your eyes are always drawn to them. I don't like the lava lamp's chances of surviving the SPL's of the TAD's when you unleash the watts.
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Trust me, the Ref 1's haven't got a chance against that lava lamp. I purchased it from a location where I heard the most impressive system of my life, the previous owner couldn't kill it and I doubt I will.

Krell KAS monoblocks for top end and Krell FPB-600 for bottom. Once I get the ME-1500 back from Trevor ill have a play with that also. Edited March 3, 2014 by yamaha_man

Malcolm Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Update! New speakers just before Christmas and this little cracker of an amp just turned up today. Is the pic in focus or is your Krell quivering being next to that tube amp . Cheers

Don't worry Joe, taking the Nikon so will have quality pics for you to drool over (if I can work out how to get the settings right, and remember to take the lens cap off!)
